Description It seemed to Pellinor that the gods saved his life just because they liked watching him suffer. As a hedge wizard (and not a particularly good one at that), most of his time after the Helgen debacle had been spent running away, healing his fragile body and taking potshots at his enemies whenever he finally regained enough magicka for a single firebolt. Once an aspiring illusionist, he quickly switched gears to Conjuration when it became obvious that he needed minions to hide behind. Even after being hailed as the mighty Dragonborn, his pilgrimage to High Hrothgar was rudely interrupted when every single guard in Ivarstead tried to kill him. Turned out he'd incurred a 40-septim bounty without realizing it, which meant he had to sneak into Riften to turn himself in just to continue on his quest to save the world.

Well, congratulations, Skyrim. You finally killed him. Tired of being the universe's punching bag, Pellinor allied himself with the Volkihar and joined the ranks of the undead. With his new powers as a vampire lord, the world's worst mage now has a chance to be the world's greatest monster. One thing is certain: he will never be a victim again.

~~~
I've mentioned before that my PC can't really run Skyrim: Special Edition. So I finally broke down and bought it on my PS4. That console got the short end of the stick when it comes to mods, but honestly, I use those more for making comics than I do actually playing the game. A new start deserves a new hero, so now I've got Pellinor: a beautiful representation of everything Shelob is not. I've never really been good at playing a mage in Skyrim, so my progress has been slow, but gosh darn it if I'm not having a blast.
Making two posts in the same day is probably a sign that I'm bored, but what the heck? It's almost Christmas.
It's a rare thing for a person to lose his self-esteem *after* his own life, but now here we are.
poor Pelinor.Β
I do hope, though, he doesn't become a worse bully that what he's had to face down. Being a constant victim usually goes one of three ways: perpetual victim; protector; or a worse bully than those that messed with him.
I'm hoping for protector, but that little blurb is not reassuring me.
an infusion of Rincewind? that has promise.
I weep for him.
Ultimately, he's playing the Wolverine to Shelob's Superman. Pellinor is much less about protecting the innocent than punishing the guilty, and the absolute rush of being on top of the food chain for the first time in his life. At the end of the day, his influence on Nirn is a net positive, though it's by a narrower margin than some of the more altruistic Dovahkiins out there. Fun fact: he's planning to join the Stormcloaks with the express purpose of seeing the Empire end.
I don't know much about Rincewind, but I can definitely see ye olde universe-trying-to-screw-him-over-in-ways-he's-not-prepared-for scenario being a recurring theme in Pellinor's adventures. Especially in random encounters, when it seems everyone he tries to help winds up turning on him... including a group of Legionnaires he was helping to fend off some ice wraiths, which just added fuel to the whole "end the Empire" fire he's got going on.
Comparing him to Wolvie is a positive in my scorebook. Christopher Reeves was the last person to give me a Supes I could get enthusiastic about.
Stormcloak? Gasp! You're giving me a Stormcloak? Squee! *cuddles Pellinor*Β
"everyone screws him over" aw no, please tell me you're not planning on having the Stormies turn on him?
does Serana, at least, provide a friend through thick and thin?
I'm all about the Tim Daly/George Newbern Superman from the animated shows, but Reeves was a stone cold classic. I don't touch the Snyderverse Superman with a ten-foot pole.
But naww, none of Pellinor's actual allies (Stormcloaks included) would deliberately turn against him. It's mostly just goofy circumstances and bad luck. Like this example from his pre-vampire days:
OLD ORC: "I am waiting for my good death. It's not good for an Orc to live past his usefulness."
PELLINOR: "Perhaps... I could give you this death you seek?"
OLD ORC: "Hmm. We shall see."
*punches Pellinor's lights out instantly*
OLD ORC: "Nope, guess not."
PELLINOR: "Medic!"
*comes back later and defeats Old Orc by jumping on a high rock and sniping at him with firebolts until he goes down in what was probably not his idea of a good death*
Yeeeah, poor Pelinor. He needs a partner, the poor love.
Poor Pellinor. You'd think that having an Altmer's lifespan would mean he'd have plenty of time to learn magic. Well now that he's a vampire he is wffectivey immortal, so now he has all the time in the world to practice!
On another note: Welcome to the Special Edition club! At least you could get it, even if not on PC.
Maybe it's on a scale? So being a fifty-year-old Altmer is like being a freshly minted twenty-something human with no real-world experience? At least he hasn't polymorphed anyone into a cow yet, like certain Dunmer mages I could name. (Though he would probably leap at the chance, since cows are a lot less dangerous than bandits or saber cats).Β
I'll be expecting my membership card and commemorative baseball cap in the mail!
That's quite a backstory, lol. Somehow reminds me of Rincewind, well except the turning into a vampire thing.
I can see it. I really need to go back to those books... I only made it about halfway through the first one back in high school, because I was too young and dumb to appreciate what I'd been given.Β
Yeah tell me about it. I don't even own any of them, I only read some of them when someone lent them to me for a time. I wish I'd have my own versions.
Β  Β
An Orsimer warrior that can Shout dragons from the sky and bend time with his voice...
VERSUS
An Altmer mage that can barely muster enough magicka to survive a battle, much less fight back...
Gods forsake the Mer at every turn, in spite of what the Thalmor have been spouting since 2011.
It's true. Though Shelob is technically a mer as well, except most of his people's forsaken-ing happened early on, so he's got a lot of good karma saved up.
