Description Once in a while, you come to a place in your life where you think you have exhausted all options. The road ends and there's nothing else in sight.
But sometimes you need someone to tell you it isn't so. Even at the land's end you can find your own way again. Because when the road ends, the sea is still going to be wide open. And open for you to explore. All you need to do is open your eyes and look ahead.

Here's a trivia: The Flat Earth Society believes that this part of Newfoundland (near Fogo and Change islands) is one of the 4 corners of the earth. That's why the local theatre comapany is also called "Land's End." It's very fitting, isn't it?

My wonderful partner is FindingItHarder You can read his brilliant poem here:  The road ahead
Trapped in a car and I can't seem to turn around
Slowly yet surely losing all my ground
High-strung and my instincts void
Dead set while everyone's content and poised
That's what it's like
When travel has lost all its sense
No fuel in the tank, no signpost, no path
No defense, I can clearly see the end
Keeping my eyes on the straight and narrow
A thousand electric eyes I see
A single step out of the line
Will be the end of me
Ever since the fifth gear I knew there'd be a exit
Not a matter of when but rather where it is
Will I give in, because soon I know I'll slip
Like watching a junkie witnessing his last hit
I took a look and said to myself, "This is it"
Right on the trigger but could never begin ignition
It seemed like out of nowhere I was brought to a full stop
By some four car maneuver between gravel and a drop
They told me to wait
Be patient
There will be change
You'll be okay
And they were right
I've gotta get my passion back
Though I'm afraid that past has passed
And I hate, I'

Twillingate, Newfoundland.
Largest town in the Iceberg Alley of Newfoundland. If you ever make it out to the Rock, don't forget to drop by there!

Love the sinuous sense of flow around the shore.
And my first thought about end of the road was that one simply has to change mode of transport. Life's like that - it has a number of different parts to the journey we need to take.

That's exactly it, my friend. That's why there's a boat in the water where the road ends. I had to see it for myself during that period of time in my life. I hope that when people see the photo, they think of the same things that crossed your mind. When one road ends, another one begins.

Thank you very much for your very kind comments!

Hi CJ! Thank you for submitting to for feedback!
I have to say that I am very much enjoying the beautiful view you're displaying here. Since you submitted for feedback, I do have some suggestions for you:
- I find that the shadows are very harsh and dark. This is taking away a lot of details in the darker areas of the photograph. My advice here would be to light up the shadows to bring back some of that detail, and to give the overall photo a less harsh look. Direct sunlight is a difficult light situation that always causes these kind of things. Playing with both highlights and shadows will help to create a "softer" image.
The view is great! I also enjoy the composition, some might say it's a bit boring, but for this photograph, it works very well. Good work CJ, keep it up! I've said this before, you've got a good eye!

Hello! And thank you very much for your very kind comments, too!

I do agree with you, the shadows are a bit dark. This place is pretty far up north, which means when the sun comes out, it's harsh and strong. I will see what I can to light up the shadows in the future (it's a bit tough with a phone camera. But I hear they are doing great with some filters lately... ) It's definitely time for experiments!

And most importantly, thank you for your kind words on the view and the scenery. You're looking at the Iceberg capital of the world!

Your welcome
I'll admit, they are not my strong suit I overwhelm myself with composition some times. I think I just got to chill and take a step back haha. I also do not have many good landscapes to shoot anyway

I can see why

SinistrosePhosphate In reply to Loffy0 [2017-07-04 03:56:12 +0000 UTC]

Sometimes... you just gotta chill. If you try too hard, you are going to run yourself into some trouble!
I usually end up taking a lot more photos than I ever will need. But it's nice to have the choice later than having to make a decision right on the spot. I usually end up choosing one out of a dozen (if ever that). So... maybe you can try thing that way, too.

Gotta love landscapes!

Don't take this the wrong way but you just kind of told me the basic stuff about photography I already know man haha. Its like if I tried to tell you how the basics about how to cut paper Or paint for that matter I'm pretty sure any half way decent photographer has 1000s of pictures they didn't like! I'm not upset or anything though; I know you were just trying to be helpful A lot of the issue is I don't have much in the way of pretty subjects for landscape shooting lol.

Oh... I know you know about this...
... heck, you're a better photographer than I am!
It's just that once in a while it's nice to hear it from someone else, that's all. And if you didn't... well, at least it means that I'm on the same page as you are, right?

I don't know if I told you, but I drove 6 hours out to take this specific photo. When it comes to landscape... sometimes you need to go out hunting. National parks are a good place to start. I just don't know if there's any close to where you live?

Loffy0 In reply to SinistrosePhosphate [2017-07-12 05:58:42 +0000 UTC]

Fair point lol. Very true Sorry if that came off aggressive or anything. Maybe I was just being insecure, sorry man I know what you mean though It is good to know you understand

Oh no, you didn't tell me. Wow. Were you doing something else while you were out there? Yeah, I was actually thinking about going for a few walks next time I am at my cabin There is some beautiful stuff up there! A photographer friend of mine on here posts some of her snapshots of things around her house on twitter and instagram and she is lucky as hell to have such beauty there! I have made many jokes about how its not fair she has that stuff out her window She too luck! Lol www.thepicta.com/user/nixquick…
National Parks? No. There are some metro parks though, like Kensington and Lake Erie. Not much to shoot in terms of landscapes though.. but there is a boardwalk path at Kensington.. it could work.. Hmm. If I remember stuff right I think I just came up with a shot I could take!

SinistrosePhosphate In reply to Loffy0 [2017-07-13 06:58:33 +0000 UTC]

Hein, let's put it this way... I know you well enough to know that you didn't mean for those words to sound bad. And it's OK to feel insecure from time to time, too. I think that's only natural, isn't it?

There was a summer festival happening at the town over that weekend. I used to work there and I made it a point to go back to visit whenever possible. So I try very hard to go to the festival. The whole thing lasts for a week but since I work long hours on weekdays, the only time I have is to drive out on Friday and come back on Sunday. (I sometimes have to drive out early Saturday morning instead.) So for a 6-hours-one-way trip, I can only stay for around 36 to 40 hours in town. Some might say it's a lousy bargain, but the place really has amazing scenery. It almost makes the driving tolerable.

Your friend's in a really nifty spot! I'd love to visit if I could. But Lake Erie sounds promising, too. And maybe Kensington as well (I don't know the place well enough to say anything about it... ) Either way, it's important to take your camera everywhere. That way you won't ever miss a good shot!

Glad you understand thanks!
From time to time? Pssshhh I feel insecure all the time I am just not an asshole about it. I have never understood why so many people turn their insecurity into acting like an asshole, that just makes things worse Not that it does not make me look dumb some times though :/

Ah ok, that is cool Hey our cabin is 4-5 hours away and we go and only spend that long there. Doing 6 once a year for something special like that is totally worth it What is the festival? I won't judge
Oh yeah you really hate driving eh? I am not a huge fan but if I were to take a long trip I may stop along the way a few times here and there.

Ikr? I get jealous any time she posts a "good-morning!" picture of some beautiful landscape lol. Nah but really I am happy to know not everywhere can be as unappealing in look as where I am haha.
Yeah Well Kensington is a larger lake great for fishing but also yeah, if I looked around I know I could find some nice landscapes If I do go with some one, getting them to have the patience will be the issue Oh yeah Thats why I EDC one, even a point and shoot is better than nothing

SinistrosePhosphate In reply to Loffy0 [2017-07-15 05:58:10 +0000 UTC]

No problem, my friend!
And if you feel insecure all the time... you're not alone! Most of the time I am waiting for people to show up on DA and tell me that I don't really belong here. Heck, I've always imagined that someone had made a mistake accepting me into medical school! But hey, I still do my best. And considering that no one kicked me off of DA or my clinic yet... maybe I am doing something right. Maybe.

As far as being an *sshole is concerned... I guess some folks are *ssholes regardless if they are insecure or not...

The festival is called "Fun, Fish and Folk". www.fishfunfolkfestival.com/ It's a celebration of everything local. When I was still working there, I made a batch of plush cat toys in the shape of sea shells for the hospital's Auxiliary team to sell.  I think it was rather fitting, really. For me, the trip is mostly a social visit and a great photo opportunity. I mean, you guys haven't seen photos of this place at all. Some of the waterscapes can be really breath-taking!  Probably quite as cool as the landscapes your friend is posting. But you got it when you said you can find something nice if you look for it. That's the great thing about EDC'ing a camera. I only have the one on my phone at the moment, but it means that thing is totally EDC. I guess it's the best I can do at the moment!

I don't like long-distance drives, really. Part of it has something to do with a hydroplaning accident that almost sent me flying into a rock cliff. That's gotta scare the living daylights out of most people, right?

Aww, sorry you feel like I do Very true though. I think your doing something right, namely with your work! Cuz if you were not doing something right, then you actually would be kicked out lol.

Yeah haha. If they were confident they would prolly be a different kind of asshole lol.

Wow that sounds awesome Haha cool! Didn't know you could sew! That sounds worth the trip for sure! Why have you not posted any of the scapes you shoot up there here? Yeah, lol, it definitely looks it! Nothing wrong with that Just shoot with what you got ^^ Just look around for a used camera Since shooting aint your primary form of expression, even a point and shoot with some control would work

You got a story for everything eh? Just giving you a hard time What happened when you crashed into a rock cliff!? Hell yeah!

SinistrosePhosphate In reply to Loffy0 [2017-07-23 07:53:04 +0000 UTC]

I guess so! I mean... no one has tried to kick me out of anything quite yet. That must mean somewhere, somehow, I'm doing something right... right?

I think over-confidence breeds *ssholes. But nothing breeds abso-bloody-lutely crazy *ssholes like self-righteous people.

Well, sewing is something that comes part and parcel of the job (we sew people together, right? ) I just took it to something other than people from time to time. I think the reason why I never posted the photos is because I wouldn't know where to start. I am a real shutter-bug, and with an outing like this one I usually end up with around 150, 200 photos. I need to sort through them and that's the problem. I just don't have the time to do that kind of stuff. Besides... you were absolutely right, photography isn't my forte. I'd be flooding my gallery with photos if I were to put -that- many photos here!

Oh, do I ever! I mean, we are all the hero of the story of our own life, right?
So the story went like this: I was on my way to a convention from Twillingate to St. John's (again, a 6-hour drive). I got up early in the morning to drive out but it was raining the night before and the highway was fogged over like Silent Hill. And since it was so early in the morning there were no one else on the road, either. As much as I love the Silent Hill games, it's still damned creepy to feel like you are driving in the game. Anyway... I think I must have hydroplaned, because I suddenly lost control of the vehicle. I was hitting the brakes as hard a I could and twisting the steering wheel based on whatever little I could see through the fog.

... by the time I finally stopped the car, I was crossed the mid-line and I was a couple inches away from slamming into the rocky cliff face on the other side...
...

Hmm, well that is why I tend to only upload a few of the million I take lol. Took fifty photos the other day. I know I will upload no more than two maybe. That makes sense though Prolly best to put only the works up on here that move you since photography aint your thing it maybe wouldn't fit right, yeah I have thought of putting stuff in scraps before Or just showcasing it in a status or journal from sta.sh.

Ain't that the truth friend

You're welcome!

One of the best things about photography, in my opinion, is that you don't need a lot of fancy equipment (although that helps, of course, if you want to take really up-close pictures or something) or prior knowledge.  You just need to have a love for photography and you'll be good at it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SinistrosePhosphate In reply to Luna-the-Zekrom [2017-06-24 21:18:45 +0000 UTC]

I think at some point in time the fancy equipment will come into play. A family friend has recently invested in a set of really cool equipment so he can take photos of birds. And some of his photos are just downright amazing. But for most of us... point-and-click is still convenient. And when you have scenery -this- beautiful...  even a point-and-click can go a long, long way.

I can't swim. Heck, I am afraid of ducking my head under a bathtub of water. You won't see me puking in the toilet because I hate the idea of ducking my head -that- close to water. So in a way, you are doing a lot better than I am. I can't even do a pool!

But I've heard what you're telling me, though. Water amplifies sound waves and light waves. And acts as a kind of corrective lens. That's not a bad thing, though. Sometimes  the water can do a person a lot of good! (... if you can stand being inside it, I guess...
