Another one of my Shadow doodles I did earlier today. Just messing with different styles. This is one of the ones I liked the best out of the batch I did.

When I was drawing him, I was thinking of like, a far far future version of Shadow, when the earth is nearly destroyed and he's the only person left alive. He's caught somewhere between hopelessness and keeping his promise to Maria, and wants to find some way to kickstart a new era of life on earth before he goes ahead and dies already for Pete's sake. He's tired and wants his job to be done, but being the only person in the world means it's taking him a long time to accomplish his goal. He recalls times when he was hunted down as the world's enemy, and times when he was heralded as a great savior. It's been so long though, he can't remember which ones actually happened, and what kind of person he had been in the past. The only memory he still clings to is his promise to Maria, and the love she had for humanity.

The other scenario I came up with while drawing this was that he was again, the only person left alive at the end of the world, but instead of trying to restart life on earth, he had actually stayed alive because he knew that one day Sonic would be thrown into the far future by some cosmic event, and that without the help of someone else, Sonic would be stranded in the future with no way of returning (chaos control time travel requires two people). So he waited. And waited. And waited. Even after the rest of the world fell apart and he was totally alone, he waited. Finally, thousands of years later Sonic arrived because of the time anomaly, and with Shadow's help was able to return to his own timeline and enjoy the rest of his life. When Sonic learns that he waited so long for him he feels terrible, but future Shadow assures him that waiting the thousands of years in solitude was worth having Sonic as his friend for the short time they were alive together. Though once he returns to the present, Sonic fails to get such a heartfelt confession out of his current Shadow.
