That would be cool, I tried a boi with wood but it's hard. Marble must be such an unforgiving material to work with.

i wonder - ssomehow I feel like wood would be more difficult since it is made of such brittle fibers and maybe more affected by humidity and grain?Β

Absolutely, in medieval wood sculpture (witch, surprise, surprise, I tried to emulate)Β they covered the sculpture with a layer of chalk and glue to do the fine details and then painted it.Β Wood is faster and you can make different parts of a sculpture separate and then glue them together. Does marble have sort of a grain I wonder, the patternsΒ make me think so, but I guess there are different kinds of marble. Β

oh yes Im sure theres agrain to marble but in a consistent piece of pure composition it might be smoother than wood but idk, now I didnt think of how wood is lighter and can glue together!

Have you tried clay? I'm thinking no grain but more of a time problem. Problem for me is I don't like the feel of clay.

Oh I did beeswax for casting bronze. I found it frustrating, it's hardness varies so much with temperature. I guess if one worked in a warm room it wold be nice. Ice must be hard, doesn't it crack very easy?

ice actually carved so smoothly it was like butter... its the way its frozen they shake it so all the bubbles are worked out and frozen slowly I think.Β
I imagine butter would be awesome to carve in a cold room. wax in a warm room
