I went through hell to make this stamp
I spent an hour trying to get decent fonts onto GIMP
And you know what? It still didn't happen! >:C

Oh well, it turned out fine I suppose.

I noticed that there are plenty of stamps on DA for Shonen and Shojo, but none for Seinen (my personal favorite) and Josei. So I'll be making a Josei one soon.

For those who don't know, Seinen is what a manga is called when it's target audience is men from 18-30. And no, not porn.

Seinen is a more mature version of shonen manga. It can be many things
1. Focus on developing characters, and having a more well thought-out plot
2. More graphic content
3. Both
They tend to often be epic tales of honor and/or vengence, but not always. More often than not, the main character is an older male.
Seinen manga usually has a more realistic art style

Some examples of Seinen manga are: 20th Century boys(1), Vinland Saga(3), Monster(1), Akira(3), Battle Royal(2, arguably 3), Berserk (3 for some of it, apparently it goes to hell later), Trigun: Maximum (3), Vinland saga, Hellsing(2), and Vinland Saga

...
did I mention Vinland saga?

Oddly enough, it also houses the title "Chi's sweet home" which is about a cat who does random cute crap.

...
XD

Is Cowboy Bebop Sienen or Shonen? I honestly can't tell the difference sometimes...and what about Baccano! ?Β

Attack on Titan is a seinen story because it's terrifying man-eating giants and the blood and gore, thus making it more comparable to Berserk as oppose to Naruto or Bleach.

Actually, Attack On Titan is a Shonen, not a Seinen.

Sorry. This was new to me and I didn't what think about it. Attack on Titan is shonen but I think it's actually neat how the show has a good few humorous moments to balance out the grim nature of the titans.

Trigun. Trigun all the way.
Also Chi's Sweet Home. That is one darn cute anime.

It's true Seinen manga is quite a spectrum. I love it! Thank-you so much for posting such a great stamp about Seinen!

It's true! I didn't know about the terminology until recently, but all my favorite are actually Sienen, or close to sienen Shonen. Great stamp!

I love both Seinen and Josei. Seinen and Josei have such well written and developed stories. The horror fan in me also loves the gore. I also like the fact that the art isn't super cute. The art looks more realistic.

Glad you agree. Admittedly, my josei knowledge is limited.
I'm not much of a horror fan. Psychological thrillers on the other hand...

For me it doesn't matter what kind of genre my favourite anime belongs to. I am satisfied if the characters are involving and the plot is not to rushed.

But yeah, nice stamp !

It's not like I won't read (and enjoy) other types of manga/anime. I just tend to prefer Seinen. Just coincidentally.

Broken link is broken. I've read Chi's Sweet home up to book six and since Borders went down under, it's highly unlikely I'll ever see it again. I didn't really see it like the way you described it, I saw it kinda like Garfield or Marmaduke or something like that. Only in Japan.

SimbaTheHuman In reply to TheBlackBullets [2011-07-08 00:47:50 +0000 UTC]

That's too bad. I never actually read or watched Chi's sweet home; although I would like to.
Oh, I know. I was more exaggerating because the difference between that and what other seinen manga is is so immense. xD

There's a few that I like, but I find that more of them mean 'mature' as in more tits and blood instead of handling deeper stories with more subtext.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SimbaTheHuman In reply to i-stamp [2011-07-07 00:12:36 +0000 UTC]

Eh, it could mean that as well. But most of the seinen I read is the latter.

i-stamp In reply to SimbaTheHuman [2011-07-07 00:25:13 +0000 UTC]

Personally I consider manga like Hellsing part of the former rather than the latter. But that's just my opinion.

The only seinens I've watched and read are Chi's Sweet Home and Puella Magi Madoka Magika, but I found it interesting. I'll check some others some time, Akira and Vinland Saga seem to be great!

SimbaTheHuman In reply to CyanoDrake [2011-07-05 19:14:43 +0000 UTC]

I've only seen bits of Chi's sweet home, but it was cute. I've seen all of Madoka, and it was good. Too much hype, though. I prefer Princess tutu in terms of Magical girl anime >.<

-Thinks- Let's see
I've read (*= not finished)
20th Century boys
Vinland saga* (publishing)
Pluto*
Akira
Battle Royal*
Billy Bat* (publishing)
