Description wow my scanner did a number on the brightness .....anywho this is my entry for a weapon design contest held by

Zerfetzen = German for "to tatter, to tear up, to shred"

A customized flamberg, Zerfetzen has the power to rip through anything it's wielder desires, rendering shields and armor useless. This makes up for it's heavier-than-average weight due to its bulk.

Standing at about 5'6", it is a weapon to be rekoned with. Not only does it's hooked blade, crimson and black guard and polished pommel send a chill down it's opponent's backs, but the plated ricasso and thick hilt make for superb blunt weapons in times of too-close-for-comfort combat.

Edit: I forgot the origin!! So here it is

Zerfetzen was a prized sword of the German army during the Medieval ages. Forged by the royal blacksmith with the help of a locally known mage, it was presented to the greatest warriors on the front line of battle, a crown piece to lead the charges. It was a weapon that brought pride and honor not only to those who were presented with it, but to everyone around the warrior as well, for no other nation could ever come close to recreating it's glory. To the soldiers who saw Zerfetzen charge into battle felt a risen sense of power, they felt unstopable, giving them the will to go on no matter what happened to them.

I'd like to see your take on the flamberge, another front-line sword, it's principal use was to shatter pikes and take out cavalry.

oh I just thought! There's a ring on the end of the pommel, a weight could be attached to it if so desired

In the hopes of helping out a bit and hearing some critique myself, I figured I'd go through and comment on the other entrants to Wen-M's challenge and Welcome them to comment on mine as well.

A very solid B.A.B.A.H.S. (Big ass bad ass hero sword). I'm always a bit weary about huge weapons like this because well, most people wouldn't be able to wield it simply from the size not to mention the weight. In a fantasy world this is forgivable though.

The detailing along the lower blade is very complimentary to the overall look of the sword and the hooked edge certainly does look fierce.

Is there more to the story of this blade and where it came from? One would assume a sword able to slice through anything would be highly prized and likely held in some esteem for its origins as well as its power in battle

Thank you very much

I did have in mind the weight limitations of the sword, but I made sure it was still useable. I have a longsword and a claymore of my own in my room that helped me with the size and weight estimations. I've been into weapons for a while so I've felt what a heavy weapon feels like. The one thing that makes it a little harder on my drawings is the thickness is unknown, so you can never really tell how big it really is. When I thought this up it was twice as thick as a normal sword, yes heavy, but not by too much that it would be a problem.

Thanks for the reminder on origin, I'll edit that into my comments.
