Description A small sample of what I've been doing all this time.....I have drawings and things to put up I'm just really lazy and never get to bother posting them. I swear it'll happen eventually

This "broad katana" for lack of a better term, is what spawned from my mind when A: I was playing Chaos Legion some time ago, and B: I want a sword with the beautiful finesse of a katana but the girth of a long sword. I one day hope to actually make this sword. A friend of mine in kendo will be getting a forge of his own and has offered its use to me when he gets it up and going. I can't wait >8D

Of all the weapons I've wielded, A sword of this nature seems to be one of the top styles suited to fit me.

[EDIT]: I updated the appearance. I have a sheath made too I'll put up once I can get paint to stop being a bitch.

[EDIT]: Finished the sheath

one question how do u pull it out? is there a slit at the side? cause no matter how i see it, from this view anyways, u can't pull out this sword

I love both the design and the concept. The only problem I see with producing a physical version of this is that I see that the blade is wider, at one point, than the sheath's opening is. I just wanted to throw that out there so that when/if you decide to produce it, that won't be a problem to deal with.

I've said, in earlier comments that the wide parts or the sheath are slitted so the blade can fit through.

lol that wont work ... you could never take the sheath off and on. Look again..

silentmaster In reply to BeckOthinn-blackwolf [2010-12-25 03:37:18 +0000 UTC]

Um, yeah I could. I made the model, I know there's a slot for the sword to pass through. The sword isn't completely incased by the sheath.

just because i have cdo...
How would you manage to get the sheath on all the way?
wouldn't the awesome looking things near the handle block the sheath?
Faved, btw

silentmaster In reply to 006ruler [2010-10-26 03:47:47 +0000 UTC]

At the peak of each protrusion on the sheath the sides are slit open to let the round and pointed parts of the blade slide out, it's not completely closed off~ It's the same way with swords like the Chinese broadsword or middle eastern scimitar

Thanks for the fav

Again, simple, yet effective

the idea of combining a longsword and a katana together is really cool....

hmmm....
you dont mind if I 'borrow' the idea of a broad katana from you

I like the main character in the web comic I'm GOING to be making to use it... course the is after I learn how to draw fairly correct poses

I also suck at weapon design and this actually fits his personality quite well

silentmaster In reply to Beowulf723 [2008-12-19 03:42:29 +0000 UTC]

I don't see why not. An older friend of mine has told me that the concept was once used for an old Chinese sword, yet I've never seen such a sword myself.

The style I work on with it involves a trading off between kendo and one handed longsword movements.

Have fun ^^

Suppose I'll have to brush up on both those styles if im gonna do this correctly...

To YOUTUBE!!!

and as for the sword you're friend was talking about... I dont know about Chinese, but there is a Japanese sword called the Chokuto that apparently sounds a lot like this sword. The design for it was imported from China too.

thanks for letting me use it...

also

thats an image of a Chokuto style blade

its a rendered image, but an image nonetheless

[link] - its on how japanese swords have changed over the years

quite an interesting site on swords... maybe it'll help inspire some more cool weapon designs

hmmmm.....well according to wikipedia the Chinese sword that served as the inspiration sounds pretty close to what my friend was describing.

good luck
