Description OKAY..*sigh* I've tried. I might mess with it more, when i get some feedback from the people who know what they are doing, so i might re-upload the main file, but for now, I'm done....It's not great, but it's an attempt at "matte painting" ..........if i can call it like that....

EDIT1: so the masters have spoken, i fixed some stuff (of which a thing or two was just me being lazy lol, i never am but when i am it's dumb and obvious shit like that) - added highlights and darkened a few shadows.

Anyways.

This looks awesome! Matte painting is hard, and I think you nailed the atmosphere and lighting. Well done!

It is hard! But i have some actual professionals helping out, they said i'm not too bad, haha
Oh and i nailed the lighting on a second time only, since i had to fix the shadows and add some highlights.
I hope it's not the last one!
Thanks so much for a comment!!

Looks stunning in my opinion, you shouldn't sell yourself short! I can't see anything wrong with the tones and values, the buildings are blended really well in particular imo.

Oh, Erik, you and your positivity. When i look at the stuff like you or any other people make it's humbling tbh, not to mention having people who work on actual movies share their works around and give opinions. I was asked if someone from that bunch can doodle on that work to give some tips and point out things, like you KNOW something is off there if they tell you that lol I don't know, i wouldn't say it's selling myself short, i'm just aware of the level of my skills, and how little you can impress anyone in the field. But i guess i'm so aware that i constantly sound disappointed in my own abilities. I do appreciate your positivity, i always do. Thank you.

EDIT: Man i'm slow, i just found you on Mattepaining.com, was just scrolling through some artwork packs. I don't know why i didn't think you'd be there lol

It is weird that one of my guides is on their page because actually I feel the same way you do about my skill sometimes.
Matte painting really is a genre for perfectionists. It's all about tiny little details that separate a decent from an excellent artwork and you can spend hours on an image tweaking those details. I really admire some of the artists and their skill in the field but while the results usually look incredible, the originality is often lacking in my opinion. Some of them are merely a bunch of landscape photos thrown together (with great technique admittedly). If you do the same thing over and over for years you'll be amazing at it eventually. Long story short, my point is that you shouldn't feel too intimidated about it.

The imposter syndrome? haha, see??
You know now when you mention it, i hardly ever see some really creative ones on the groups i am a part of, it's usually real life sceneries that they go after. It makes sense, but it can get a bit repetitive. It's a good exercise i guess, so they all end up with that. Studying i suppose. But yeah, i'm so not about that too, I love the stuff that you make, for that reason. It's not just the skills that show, but your creative mind, too. And that's what i wanna do too, to create world that are much more interesting than the one we live in. Although ironically you end up using a lot of what's there to come up with things. Interesting, ha.

Haha, it sort of does, maybe it has a bit of that painterly feeling to it? To be honest though? i was considering adding some wonky stuff, like in his paintings, but decided not to haha, although it feels a bit empty to me, still.

Thanks for the comment, btw, love the perspective you shared here!

Well, you'll soon find out that this place is not quite as involved in general, unless you find people and communities within. It's a very "nice work", "good job", "amazing" sort of a place rather than actual deeper interactions.

Well i guess if you put it in a way of the stylistic choices, colours and the fact that his works are very "open" yet have a lot of details in them, you might be onto something. I love his paintings, although i never consciously follow anything. But i mean everything is an influence at some point. With this i wanted to go as "cinematic fantasy", "mad max" but in a more fantasy way kind of route. I still wanted to keep it realistic as possible, or as the pros say "photorealistic haha
Anyway's i'm babbling here. Thanks again for the comment! And welcome to DA

Well it's not always that's something happening there. Sometimes you just do what looks cool haha

Well, good luck with that. Sometimes i guess you just don't know what to say that's why you end up being silent.

well what i did was darken some shadows and added some highlights where there were none. Didn't do anything very drastically major, maybe that's why. And i assume the clearness comes from the darkened pieces and probably the highlighted edges.
