Description The beautiful Peace River valley near Fort St. John, B.C.  The area currently under threat by BC Hydro's "Site C dam"

The project has sparked controversy for a number of reasons: First Nations treaty rights are at issue, the dam is thought by many to be economically unviable, and there are concerns about the loss of agriculturally productive land and the overall environmental impact. The federal/provincial Joint Review Panel found that the need for the electricity had not been clearly demonstrated, nor were alternatives to the project evaluated.

Such a calm place
It's always worrying how the nature of 1 of the last countries in the world, where it's not yet completely wasted, is under threat of such questionable economic projects. Shale gas/oil for example.
I've read stupid texts about a need to invite to Canada more migrants to make the population as big as 100 million...because the government needs more workers to harvest natural resources from country's large territory! Growth for sake of increased consumption...cancer ideology.

Ahh, I know, it's so frustrating!  I wish Canada would be a leader and invest in clean energy    The worst part is that apparently we don't even need the extra power... so why do they want to push ahead with it?

More stuff to mine and to sell...kinda economic growth. Which will be negated by increased population though.  I like Canada as it is now, it's quite unique that a big country with different nature in different provinces has small population which lives sort of without destroying the nature around. I hope it will remain so, would like to visit it too some days. I think...Alberta and Yukon

I love living here on the B.C. coast, it is beautiful!  Mostly we are fairly environmentally conscious, but sadly a lot of places like Alberta are oil-crazy.  They refuse to move on.  I have been to Alberta, some places like Banff, Jasper, and Drumheller are very beautiful and nice to see.  B.C is very beautiful too though, especially the coast.  I only briefly got to the Yukon, but I'd like to go back and see it all!
