well in my opinion I love him in my hate for him? See he's in many ways an anti hero, so we love to hate him! no? I mean he never really accomplishes anything other than self defeat... He's a very "satanic" character in the sense that he is a rebel at all times, against all odds, and i'm pretty sure he doesn't even know himself why he rebels. Just because you know? Take for example what he did to David, or all the stuff he did to try to get Louis back... He is self defeating! And a snob! That's why I personaly hate him, but i love how the character is made to be so hated... you know? hahah

Haha yes, I think I understand what you mean. Of course he's an anti-hero, and that's what I like of him!
He is constantly questioning what he does, he struggles to find a sense in what he is, and I personally think that his being "snob" and cynical is just a sort of masque he wears. Truly in the deep, he is emotionally fragile, imo. I have just finished to read Blood Canticle (yeah, because it has been published here in Italy only recently..), and I just adore Lestat in this book. Sure, I hated him in Interview... but then, as the story went on, I just learnt to understand and like him more and more

Ironicaly... Notice how EVERYTHING turns arround him? even when the book has nothing to do with him, he always managed to pop up! Example "the vampire armand" my favorite book of all time! Its all about Armand a vampire who is much older and much more powerful (at the time) and BOOM it finishes with (SPOILER) Lestat's reawakening... hahaha
and in Queen of the Damned, everyone rushes to hear his story and they all wait imaptiently for his return hahah
He's SOOO invading! HE TAKES OVER THE BOOKS!!! hahaha

Haha yes, you're perfectly right. Also, I think I happened to read somewhere that Anne identifies herself with Lestat in some way...? Well maybe not totally, but just in the way he "spiritually" evolves... So maybe this is why he's practically omnipresent in the books?
(Oh, and this doesn't have much to do with the topic but you just reminded me how bad the 'Queen of the Damned' movie was, haha

True it was a total Blashphamee to the series.. eh oh vell!
And yes she said it in an interview at some point. He's her alter ego. Basicaly he portrays a stereotype of her personality. An exagertaion of herself. His open sexuality and snobiness, taste for finery and obsession with the arts is very like Anne!
So it does make sense that he is central!
But can you imagine if the series turned arround Armand? Or Pandora?
It would have changed the whole series!
For better or worse who knows?
On a side note i still say that Twilight could have been "good" if it had been arround Alice and Jasper! Agreed? I mean I don't know if you read them... But they have this secret character depth and dark side to them that she BARELY if even explored... and instead she turns arround some whiney teen and her dorky vampire boyfriend? guh...

Oh I would have loved if it all turned around Pandora! I really like her character. And her love story with Marius is just so sweet ^^ Of course it all would have been completely different though... and honestly I can't really think of Lestat as a side character at all! xD
I read only the first book of the Twilight series, and it was before it became the mass phenomenon it now is... and yes, I agree that in that case, the side characters look much more interesting than Bella&Edward! I don't know how it all develops in the following books, but I liked the character of Alice and it surely could have been elaborated in a better way!
Anyway, there really is no comparison between those sparkling vegetarian vampires and Anne Rice's creatures of the night
