Y'know, Sega's heavily implying that the next Sonic game is gonna play like the Genesis titles. And considering howΒ Sonic has already returned his roots in terms of personality since Sonic Colors, you may be in luck.
These Sonics are great, by the way. Maybe you should see if Archie Comics could let you do some work for their line of Sonic comics. For my perspective, Off-Panels (comic strips at the end of each issue that poke fun at the story) or Sonic Boom comics (Archie is planning to put stories based on the Sonic Boom TV cartoonΒ in the Sonic Super Digest book) suit you well since they're energetic and humorous just like your art style. See if you wanna give it a try.

Yeah, I miss Classic Sonic too. When I heard SEGA was going to bring Classic Sonic back in Sonic Generations I was happy and went out and brought the game.
Much to my disappointment SEGA didn't bring the TRUE Classic Sonic back. Classic Sonic never wore gold buckles on his shoes in any of his 2D games! Apparentaly the people at SEGA forget all about that... Still Sonic Generations was a okay game. You should buy it if you own a 360 or a PS3.

But Sonic Shuffle, Sonic Riders, Sonic Riders Zero Gravity, Sonic and secret rings, Sonic and the black knight, Sonic Colors, Sonic Rush Adventure, Sonic Lost World are mediocres for me.

That's true, Modern Sonic has some good game series like Sonic Adventure, Sonic Advance, Sonic Sega Superstars, Sonic and SEGA all-stars racing, Sonic Generations, Sonic 4 Episode 1 & 2, Sonic Rush, some Sonic mobile games. But Sonic Boom ruined this franchise and lost my interest about Sonic the hedgehog in late 2014, I hope Sonic Mania would be great and make me love Sonic again as much, but Sonic Forces would be good too. I like Classic Sonic too, but I'm sane Sonic fan. I don't care about shippings or pairings because they can lose your interest about this hedgehog.

On the contrary. Buckles were in the original concept art of Sonic since the very beginning. So they brought back the Classic Sonic they created like, 22 years ago.

I'd imagine no buckle in game was down to limitations. For example, on the artwork for Sonic Chaos, there is indeed a buckle on Sonic's shoes.

(Sigh!) You don't get it do you? SEGA's messing with us. They don't care about whatever Sonic's games looks cool or not anymore. I already stopped caring about Sonic's new games years ago. Ever since SEGA left the console market Sonic's games after that for some reason looks slightly less cool than his old ones.
I think giving Sonic gold buckles may be one of the reasons his games are less cool than his old ones, some other reasons would be that Hyper Sonic still hasn't returned since Sonic & Knuckles and some of the old Sonic chartcers are gone too.
Ray the squrriel, Mighty the armarillo, Nack the weasel, Bean & Bark, Metal Knuckles, Tails Doll, Super Knuckles, Super Tails, Hyper Sonic, Red Metal Sonic and all the others are gone. SEGA still hasn't brought them back.
I don't think the people at SEGA are taking Sonic's new games seriously anymore. It's Sonic games are targeted at younger kids now rather than teens like in the 90's.
My guess is that unless SEGA tries to bring the 90's Sonic back the TRUE 90's Sonic that is. (The Sonic in Generations wasn't him.) Or get rid of Sonic's gold buckles on his shoes and give him a cooler looking shoes. Sonic's games will probbaly keep on looking only half good like always.

Again, the buckles on his shoes have been there since the beginning. If removing the buckles from his shoes would make the experience better for you (like in games like 06), then have it your way. I'd probably consider you alien, but that's your opinion.

Yes, a BUCKLE makes a WHOLE WORLD of difference. Hyper Sonic? Sure. Nack the Weasel? Quite right. A shoe buckle? REALLY?
I even stated that Sonic had a buckle on his shoes in Sonic Chaos' artwork anyway, so Classic DID have them.
Still, I can't believe you think Sonic's declined because of a buckle... that logic hurts my brain. @_@

My first sonic game was sonic and the secret rings, so I'm more attached to Griffith, and the modern design, but sonic 2 is my favorite classic sonic game

the first games of sonic i had were for pc, windows 95, sonic..2 i think. i got hooked from the adventures of sonic the hedge hog on disney if anyone remembers but its true that the newer stuff of him isnt that great, time has not aged him well/

Cant say I miss the old Sonic. Sonic will always be Sonic, the diference between old and new are mainly physical. He's still that cool, goofy, cocky yet nice hedgehog we know xD

Old sonic for the win... though the blue streak's still got it :3. His younger days though were the golden ones, fighting the good fight with the freedom fighters in Knothole against the evil Dr. Robotnik xD. I really do like your art take on sonic as well xD he's got a super cartoony feel to him in contrast to his usual Japanese anime style feel in the games.

Same here. I miss the old Sonic as well. Also, it was one the best game franchises ever in the 90's. Ever since their 3D games came out, my love for Sonic died on me.
Though I am not a Sonic fan anymore, but the way you draw and coloured Sonic here is very well done and filled with life. Great work Sibs!
