Description The first time Metal Bat saw you, he didn’t feel much emotion. You were the hero medic, arriving on scene to heal civilians after the alien ship had attacked the city. The way you frantically ran between people, both hands outstretched to heal two at once, made him glad that he wasn’t responsible for the cleanup. All he had to do was stop the monsters, not undo what they had done.

But you were kinda cute.

The second time Metal Bat saw you, he felt an urge to wave at you. Seated on a hospital bed, he waited patiently with his little sister to hear that he was free to go. The Hero Association had insisted all heroes involved with the alien ship squabble pay a visit to the nearest hospital, to ensure they were truly alright before sending them on their way.

He was listening to his sister ramble about her classmates when you walked into the room. Metal Bat perked up instantly, but his excitement was snuffed when he noticed the dark circles underneath your eyes. Concern bubbled in his gut.

“Oi, when was the last time you sat down? Or ate, for that matter?” he asked you suddenly. The way your eyes widened in shock made him a little uncomfortable but he tried to remain stoic; had he said something wrong?

“Sorry, I uh,” you paused, moving closer to him so that you could check over his head injury, “I’ve been going nonstop since that ship landed. There’s so many hurt people because they couldn’t evacuate far enough.” Metal Bat could see the sadness in your tired eyes, but the way you smiled made his heart skip a beat. Pressing a palm against his forehead, Metal Bat was surprised to see your hand beginning to glow yellow. A warmth washed over his head as the dull throbbing slowly ebbed away into nonexistence.

“But thank you for your concern. Besides, I couldn’t sleep knowing someone was out there suffering and I had the power to stop it,” you smiled sadly. Metal Bat held eye contact with you, mesmerized by how passionate you were about this. Even though you looked like you were about to collapse, you had a mission. He wanted to scold you for wasting your energy on his insignificant injury.

“So with that said, you’re all healed up. Thank you for all the hard work you do, Metal Bat. I appreciate what you do for us,” you smiled warmly to him before turning on your heel and zooming out of the room just as quickly as you had entered. The S Class hero was in a daze, his eyes locked onto the door where he last saw you. The voice of his little sister broke him from his trance.

“She’s cute. Don’t you think so, Big Brother Bat? I like her.”

The third time Metal Bat saw you, he wanted to slap you. You were doing it again; running yourself to the ends of exhaustion without any reprieve.

Garou had struck higher ranking heroes once more, first Tank Top Master and then Golden Ball and Spring Mustachio. He was relentlessly attacking heroes of all ranks, even Mumen Rider. Metal Bat had been in the area when he heard the news about the newest attack, and decided to check in.

You were there, holding your palms on the chests of Golden Ball and Spring Mustachio, eyebrows knitted in concentration as you healed them at the same time. Metal Bat didn’t miss the way your tired eyes looked a little sunken in, the way your arms quivered. You weren’t even standing, you were sitting on the sidewalk so you could heal the heroes.

Striding towards you, Metal Bat could feel his blood pressure rise in rage. Did the Association know you were running down to the last wire of your physical health? Did they even give you a break at all? Were they abusing your healing power at your expense?

When you looked up and saw him, the look in your eyes made his heart skip a beat. Shock, that melted into guilt. You knew exactly what he was going to say, if the furious look in his eyes told you anything.

“Metal Bat,” you started in a soft voice, hands ceasing their glow. “It’s good to see you ag-”

“I’m taking you home.”

The confused look on your face made him purse his lips in determination as he stopped walking.

“You look like shit. I’m not going to sit around and watch you die from exhaustion,” Metal Bat narrowed his eyes. A defiant fire burned weakly in your eyes; you couldn’t just give up when Garou was on the move. Attempting to stand up, you put one foot on the group and had to push yourself off the ground. It was painful for Metal Bat to watch your struggle to even stand on your tired feet.

And when you did stand, you were swaying.

“I’m flattered that you’re concerned for me, but this is my job, what I became a hero for. I’m just doing what any hero would do and helping,” you told him, trying to sound tough. But you were clearly at the end of your limit.

Silently, Metal Bat finished walking towards you until his broad, built chest was almost touching yours. Eyes narrowed, he frowned down at you. Carefully, he placed a large hand on your shoulder. You swayed at the sudden weight.

Before you could be stubborn again, Metal Bat was kneeling at your side and wrapping an arm under your knees. Without warning, he had picked you up from the ground.

“M-Metal Bat?! What are you doing?!” you cried out, trying to push yourself away from him as your face burned into a heavy blush. However, it was as if your legs were made of lead; they couldn’t even move. Your arms were barely pressing against his rippling pectorals.

You were too weak to even struggle.

“I’m doing what any hero would do.”

At that, you instantly froze, eyes looking up into his determined eyes. You couldn’t tear your eyes from his handsome face.

“Why?” Your voice was barely a whisper, and Metal Bat couldn’t deny the way his heart began throbbing.

“You help people all day long and sacrifice your health for them. It looks like you haven’t closed your eyes in days, and you’re light to carry. That tells me you haven’t eaten a good meal in a while.” As he talked, he began walking in a random direction down the street away from the crime scene. His words hit home for you; he really did care about you.

“It’s time someone helped you before you destroy yourself.”

Metal Bat let that sink in as he carried you like a bride down the street. He meant everything he said; you were ridiculously light, and he was worried about how much you were actually able to get restful sleep. Your head pressing into his chest caught his attention, and he looked down to see you curling up into him.

Were you...asleep already?

A massive blush bloomed across his face and down his neck as his heart nearly stopped.

‘S-She’s so cute…

Crap! I didn’t ask where she lived!’

The fourth time you saw Metal Bat, you were waking up to the sounds and smell of breakfast. Your body was stiff and sore, but you felt rested. Your brain wasn’t in a fog like it had been. But, it was then you realized you were in a strange room, in someone else’s bed.

But when you looked around and saw posters of baseball players and a rack full of aluminum and wooden bats, your heart swelled. With a smile, you buried your face into the pillow one last time. It smelled just like him, the same masculine aroma you fell asleep to in his arms.

“Big Brother Bat, don’t let the bacon burn!”

“Ah! Sorry!”

When you walked into the kitchen, you were met with the sight of Metal Bat and his little sister standing over the oven. The tall, broad hero was frantically trying to get the sizzling bacon out of the pan while the little sister was tending to some eggs in a separate pan.

It was adorable, to see them together like this. It was a side of Metal Bat you didn’t think many people knew about, but you were thankful to be able to see it firsthand. A smile was curling your lips without you realizing it.

“She’s awake early. I told you you were too loud,” the little sister glared at her brother. The man looked up in surprise, his eyes locking with yours. His expression soon mirrored yours as he relaxed; his smile made your heart skip a beat.

“We were going to surprise you with breakfast in bed,” he explained, looking a little sheepish. His face erupted in a small blush as he rubbed the back of his neck.

“Uh, I hope it was okay to bring you here,” he continued, his blush growing by the second.

You weren’t sure why, but you couldn’t deny the surge of confidence that overtook your system. Your body moved before you could stop it, walking towards him with a blush that grew on your cheeks. Metal Bat was frozen in anticipation; he would have been nervous of getting slapped if it wasn’t for that dewey gleam in your eyes and that soft smile on your plump lips.

When you were close, he turned to full face you. Placing your hands on his broad chest, you leaned up on your tippy toes.

A gentle kiss was placed on his lips.

It just felt right, and you couldn’t deny the sensation of sparks on your lips afterwards. And as he stood there, his face as red as the shirt he normally wears, he could feel it too.

This was only the beginning.
