Description Its pronounced Heroine Sheek. Its a play on words of the early 90s fashion style called Heroin Chic, made famous by the model Kate Moss. I thought of the idea while leaving work the other day when I noticed they bleeped the word heroin out of a Papa Roach song. I'm not about the drug but I thought it would be kind of cool to dress a fashion model up in a heroine's outfit, namely chainmail, leather and a sword. Its also my first attempt at using the airbrush tool in Painter which turned out to be insanely easy. For additional reference, I used Omar Dogan's coloring tutorial for helping me out airbrushing the greyscale values and then multiplying the flat color layer on top. Thanks Omar for the great tutorial!

Please fullview for best viewing.

Edit: Omar Dogan gave me some awesome comments and I made some sizable edits, most noticably drawing the chainmail instead of using a repeating chainmail pattern. Thanks for calling me out on being lazy Omar. Man, my hand hurts.

(at as starter, she looks Way cuter than Kate Moss !!) and I love the whole thing : theme, pose, idea and what she wears it's really just cute and gorgeous how for once the warrior girl is not all pissed off killing or fighting but really takes a moment to be what they all are : a woman enjoying her femininity excellent work

That's a beautiful picture The proportions are correct, it's neat, and very well rendered. I like the expression on her face. The skin looks fantastic, makes me want to touch it (and I'm a woman! ) and the boots look cool.

Great job!

I'm a huge fan of her eyes, they really pop out at you. The redish lineart is a nice touch as well and the airbrushing looks really good too. Good idea with drawing the chainmail instead of a texture and I love the pose. The sword looks mighty awesome and that is one sick belt for it. I like the loops that hold her panties on (the big metal looking loops), they look pretty sweet!

Great work

Wow, great comment, I'm glad you liked it. I felt it was a pretty solid piece, I do like most of it. With the eyes, I used a repeating brush to make the iris's which is the first time I've attempted anything like that. It was fun to make. The chainmail Idea was Omar Dogan's, it was a good suggestion I think.

Well, good luck with that, its tough working on the manga. Any exposure you can get on DA or other comic sites will help you out along the way.

I love the play on words.

Great work! I love the softness. The work (and pain) that went into the chain mail shows.

shiroboi In reply to BeenieMaster [2008-02-01 13:54:44 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, yeah, the chainmail was not so fun but I think turned out better in the end. I'm still experimenting with the techinque used here. I just realized that you're supposed to tint the grayscale underneath to make the image alot warmer. I think its what I'm missing. I still like the pic though. thanks for your comment.

BeenieMaster In reply to shiroboi [2008-02-01 16:23:09 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome. I kinda like the cooler skin tones. Though it'd be interesting to see it warmer. It'd contrast with the cooler tones of the chainmail.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

shiroboi In reply to BeenieMaster [2008-02-01 17:19:42 +0000 UTC]

The cooler skintones are airbrushed overtop on a seperate layer. If I warmed the grayscale up, the cool tones would still be there on top, its just that the skin would look more alive and less gray. I need to try it. thanks.

I like it, I like it, I like it.........Did I mention I like it? Maybe it's just me, but I think the airbrush tool makes the colors feel "soft", which is good cause it is easy on the eyes. Awesome!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

shiroboi In reply to poohdiddle83 [2008-01-27 21:10:18 +0000 UTC]

The multiply mode is probably making the colors softer. It did turn out good though so I'm most likely going to be working like this in the future.

Thanks, I just updated it. I went back and hand drew all the chainmail instead of using a pattern. Now my wrist is sore as well.
