Description It took me some time to finalize, but I finally finished the in-universe companion-to-be of L-02 (Wangji) . Well, his first design at least. Because of plot reasons, he will at least have two designs, although I'm liking the second design too much to, in-universe, replace it with a third. Anyways, backstory ahoy. MDZS readers will know that J-0WB and L-02 will end up as a couple.

BACKGROUND
After Doppler supposedly invented a cure for the Maverick virus (before X3 but after X2), the reploid industry boomed, leading to innovations left and right, including in China. One such laboratory in the innovation boom is the Lotus Pier laboratory, owned by Jiang Fengmian, who is also the lead scientist along with his colleague and co-owner Yu Ziyuan, who happens to be a prodigy (the relevance of her prodigy status will be addressed when I post J-02). JFM has feelings for Cangse Sanren, who had unfortunately (for him) married his best friend Wei Changze.

CSSR had also wanted to join in the innovation bandwagon along with WCZ, but they are laymen compared to JFM, who owns the laboratory; they have the skills, but not the money. JFM's feelings for CSSR (and his connection with WCZ) led him to incorporate them into his laboratory and even let them work on their project. Their project was initially planned to be a maverick hunter-type/combat model reploid, but JFM and YZY were already working on one such model themselves.

A compromise was reached in which CSSR and WCZ's existing project is to be retooled as a support model and what combat faculties already in there will serve as some sort of "prototype" (i.e. they work on it but the experience from working on it will be used for YZY and JFM's project) for YZY and JFM's combat model. Because of this joint venture, CSSR and WCZ's finished reploid was given the serial number J-0WB:

> J for Jiang because in the end J-0WB is the product of JFM's Lotus Pier laboratory
> 0 for his somewhat-prototype status
> W for Wei to acknowledge that CSSR and WCZ were the ones who first came up with the project
> B to acknowledge that he is the second reploid released by Lotus Pier laboratory (MDZS readers will be able to figure out that the first is JYL, her design coming soon) but also as a veiled message (at least on YZY's part) that J-0WB is lower in the lab's priority list compared to their own original projects (J-01 and J-02, coming soon)

Like many others in his generation (including L-02), J-0WB is given a birth name (Wei Ying) and courtesy name (Wei Wuxian) since they're modeled after xianxia cultivators. CSSR and WCZ happened to be those types of scientists who love their creations like children, and thus J-0WB was also given Wei Changze's surname.

Being a support model does not make WWX feel down at all; in fact it made him feel empowered as he felt free to learn all other skills aside from combat. From this he decided that he enjoyed engineering the most and would invent rabbit mechaniloids that will eventually be the basis for the Rabbid bots , which will become commonplace by the time of MMXCM.

His chipper personality and skills made him one of the darlings of Far East HQ, along with, among other reploids, L-02 "Wangji" whom WWX seemingly made it his mission to tease and tease and tease and tease...

TECHNICALITIES/DESIGN NOTES
Coming up with the first prototype of WWX's first design was easy. Finalizing it was hard because when I coloured it, it looked terrible. In the end I needed to change it up a bit, but about 40-50% of the initial design remained unchanged. He mostly fights with a buster, but also has a bayonet. It's my attempt to adapt WWX's sword from the original novel, Suibian. In this AU, he already came with the buster, but he refined it and added a bayonet to it.

There's nothing much to say about this design aside from the fact that it's based off young!WWX from the MDZS donghua.

TRIVIA
I have some worldbuilding bits figured out, others are still up in the air. I will be listing the bits I have figured out and are relevant to J-0WB:

> For now he will not be raising the dead like in the original MDZS novel. The last reploid to raise the dead (Metal Shark Player) ended up retired twice because DNA resurrection is illegal. Being branded maverick is a serious issue, and even though I still need to figure out why DNA resurrection is illegal (especially if the reploid in question was not destroyed via infection), it is still not practiced even until MMZ and beyond.
> Subsequently, Chenqing will not end up being adapted. It's a bit of a shame, but, well, as explained above.
> He went MIA sometime during X6, but was later found. The plot of Once Upon a Time in Far East HQ actually starts some time after he's found. Right now the plot is being refined to smooth out the details from the original novel and how it's handled.
