I happened across a double bass concerto over the weekend that inspired this drawing www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHAeak… . I really liked the concerto, particularly the parts where it felt like it's orchestrated for bass as opposed to treating it as just a cello like a lot of other bass pieces sound ): please listen to it! if not the whole thing just listen to the last 1 minute of the video and that's the sound I was trying to draw (ignoring the fact that hes actually playing a high note here)
This is seroccrim, a summoner from Carciphona who plays the bass. He's an inconspicuous, soft spoken, and reserved person, for whom the darkness and weightiness of the bass sound doesn't seem to suit at first, but more and more I feel like giving him this instrument--an often overlooked pillar of the orchestra--helped me really be certain about his character, if anything it gave me direction and guidance when I was still getting to know him. Because he's generally unassuming, I had trouble trying to draw a picture of him that has any purpose behind it even though I really wanted to paint him at least once, but this song gave me a chance too bad I couldn't really draw his face here but I really want to draw a bassist almost embracing his instrument so maybe next time!
