like the idea, but you should work on smoothing out the lines abit.
the hair effects looks great too.
another thing i realised about your artwork is that it tends to be bright and bold. nothing against it, but you should also try experimenting with darkening the piece abit.

firstly, if you want it not to look emo, dont draw emo looking subjects:]
anyway.
to make it look less bright you could use darker tints of the normal colours that you'd use for a start. just a tint.
