Abilities:

- Black Purgatory: a holy attack that ‘purges’ impurity; it only affects those who have white blood in them, and it feels like their blood is on the inside. It is excruciatingly painful, and also affects Valke whenever he uses it.

- Sigil of the Valkyrie: a symbol in the form of the crest he wears on his chest, it is a power-up-type ability that amplifies his axe’s power, giving it a holy element, and advanced regeneration for Valke. He can also use it to materalize his axe.

- Langue de Phenix: a long whip of bright orange flames, Valke can create up to four, two on each hand. Unusable with his axe.

- Iron Maiden: when he is pushed too far, Valke will abandon his direct, by-your-own-power approach. This ability causes a mass of sharp iron spikes and thorns to erupt from the ground, trapping the target—painfully.

- Sonata of the Idyllic: golden flames wrap around the target. They cannot be doused by water or earth, only—counter-intuitively—by a stronger fire attack. However, if the attack is too weak, it will be consumed and the fire will only intensify. This does not cause much actual damage—it is mostly to cause pain and render a target immobile. It also comes in small doses, and is easy enough to extinguish if you know how. All the while, the flames will emit beautiful music while burning.

Personality:

Valke is affably sarcastic. He will act pleasant enough, but others will agree that he is usually an unpleasant individual in general. He likes to make snide remarks and poke at places that hurt; he is always extremely, almost mockingly respectful to his superiors, though he tends to disregard orders and do as he pleases. He is very difficult to stand, and he enjoys seeing people crack. He is also very prejudiced against whitebloods and those of mixed blood: though he will act genial at first, it’s soon clear what he thinks of them. It’s also obvious that he holds a strong dislike for Zenith in general. People used to ask him what he was doing then, serving in its army, but this was generally the last thing they ever did.

Valke has a bit of an obsession with the concept of ‘purification’; he views non-blackbloods as filth and halfbloods, and if he could he would purge them all. Despite his composed and jovial exterior, he is extremely unstable: if you push his buttons—or even if you don’t—he will turn completely insane, and it is impossible to reason with him. He is one of those individuals who love to see the world burn around them, and he is known to be terrifying on the battlefield. In fact, despite the supposed kinship he feels for Umbra’s people, he has never hesitated to slaughter them or anybody who happens to be around—including Souldiers on his own side. He has gotten frequently in trouble for killing compatriots, not that it ever deters him from doing it again.

Valke is also extremely prideful and arrogant—he enjoys a challenge and loves violence, but if his opponent actually pushes him too far, he will snap. When this happens, he is like a rabid dog: utterly impossible to reason or bargain with. Because of this pride, he is always ticked off when he sees another Souldier with the same Soul Colour as him. In his mind, orange is his colour, and he has killed numerous ‘co-worker’s in the past for this reason, and for others, which is why the higher-ups are wary of putting him in a team.

It is also obvious that Valke has zero respect or loyalty to the Lord of Zenith or the other Primes, to one exception: the Seraph, Ziel, is known to be the only person able to control Valke. Nobody is sure as to why, though some rumours say that they had once fought, and Valke had lost.

His instability aside, Valke is very cunning. However, his ‘heart’ is arguably stronger than his mind, and once something has caught his interest, no reasoning or logic will stop him from doing what he wants. This is what makes him especially dangerous: he has no regard for the consequences of his actions.

Biography:

Valke was born and grew up in Umbra. When things began to stir in the area where they lived, his parents moved to Meridies, believing it to be a safer and more ‘open’ nation. Valke was extremely disgruntled by this change, and as he lived in Meridies, his hatred for its people deepened. He viewed graybloods as an abomination, and both worse and better than ordinary ‘demons’, at the same time. Since he could only see his own Soul Colour, it was a long time before he learned that pure-blooded ‘angels’ did not see orange. This revelation shattered his world, and he flew into a rage, as he realized that one of his parents had demon blood in them—and that he, himself, was ‘impure’. He would have killed his parents, that night—but out of begrudging gratitude for having raised him, he left them alone, just this once.

He left his home, and wandered in Meridies, hating the country and the very blood flowing in his veins. Using holy magic, he ‘purged’ himself of it—an excruciating process that he seems to believe has worked.

He meant to leave for Umbra, then, but when he neared the border of Meridies, he came across a patrol of extremely wounded Souldiers. Seeing feathered and leather wings mixed in one group enraged him, and he ended up slaughtering them. Just then, a new shadow appeared in the sky—Valke recognized the Seraph. They fought; Valke lost, of course, was taken into custody. It is unclear what happened after that. All that is known is that despite ample opportunity to defect to Umbra, he has stayed, no matter how hatefully, in Zenith, and that to this day, the Seraph of Zenith remains the only person he will listen to.
