patreon | Furaffinity | picarto Answering the question, "What clothes would a centaur wear” has always been a tough one for people to answer, because they keep trying to transpose current human clothes designs onto horse bodies, and it doesn’t work.

So instead, I went back to first principles, to design the most basic clothes, solving the attainment problems and worked forwards from there, while drawing inspiration from the garments actually used on horses.

Soon however, it became clear that a naming convention was necessary. Without such a naming convention, it would be impossible to progress beyond arguing over the most basic fundamentals. So, with discussion from the Centaur discord forum I’m part of, these are the base designs, and naming schemes we came up with.

Notes:

• the medievil horses that are often described as being in a “dress” are actually in a “Caparison”. This is where I got the name for that garment from.

• Trousers / pants are both used to describe the same garment for humans in the UK and the USA respectively. Using both in this chart seemed a good solution for naming two different, garments fulfilling the same purpose for different legs.

• We used the name “Rug” in many of these garments, as it shows up for similar garments in the equine world.

• These garments are designed to be worn in conjunction with one another as well as human tauso garments.
