While trying to do concept work for my portfolio, I decided to do something that combined that with my beloved H2G2 fanart: do concept drawings of aliens that were in the books but were never actually seen elsewhere!
First up is the secretary of the Hitchhiker's Guide headquarters building, encountered by Zaphod in the second book, 'The Restaurant At The End Of The Universe'. I had fun drawing him, distracted as I was.
The next two will be a Dentrassi chef from the original/first book, and Wowbagger The Infinitely Prolonged from the third book, 'Life, The Universe & Everything'. I meant to post all three at once but I procrastinated and let myself get distracted, so the secretary is the only one I managed to finish today. Hopefully I'll get the other two done tomorrow.
EDIT: That shadow was bugging me so I removed it, and I tweaked the drawing itself a bit.

Oh hey, I know who this little guy is. He's very well done, good work. Love the wings and the bouncyness that he seems to have. Looks like his legs are sort of like springs, so he goes around going *boing boing boing* with little flutters between the bounces. Truely alien as well, which is hard to do.

That alien was always one of my favorites. I've been told it IS shown briefly in one of the comics, but I'm not sure if that's true. And of course, Adams probably didn't even have a set idea of what it looked like (since he didn't even know how Marvin, his own favorite character, should look like). I think it was described as having three eyes and pink wings, but this is pretty much the sort of thing I had always pictured. I kinda wonder why tentacled insects are so rare in alien/monster designs...real insects may not have tentacles per se, but you'd think they'd go together a lot more often in exotic beings.

I'd forgotten about three eyes; I thought that was just Agrajag who had the three eyes. I could remember quite a few details about the critter (pink, effeminite, tentacled insectoid with wings and prehensile tongue), but I left my book in Savannah so I couldn't double-check. Ah, well, this is pretty much how I've always pictured it.

I love the little rant Zaphod goes on when he's talking to this thing.
