I think Pirlipat deserved worse.

IDK, she probably drove off all of her suitors with the tooth-breaking thing and her nasty attitude and totally missed out on dating the gentlemanly-cuteness that is Hans, so she probably grew up lonely and sad, and everyone stopped adoring her when her beauty faded and all that was left is her bitter personality. So that's pretty just for her.
But yeah, one of the themes from Hoffmann's original was about how society views beauty (that beautiful people got away with a lot of cruelties,) while unattractive people and things were usually neglected and it took a wise soul to see beyond that (like Marie looking past the nutcracker's looks and Drosselmeyer's.)

I wonder what would the parents of the princess think about this.

I'm sure they wouldn't be too thrilled, but excessive dramatics seemed to be a part of court life. Maybe they'd consider this a normal part of courtship.

Sorry Pirilie, you had your chance and you rejected him when he turned into a nutcracker and called him 'ugly.'Β
When YOU are the ugly one, and not just in your cursed form.

I never understood what Hans saw in her. His first speaking parts in the movie are "poor princess Perlipat". He feels sorry for her, but she deserved it.

He has to. But I guess Peripat doesn't appreciate nice guys, but at least Hans found someone who does.

indeed, but one thing: considering the movie takes place in the time of Napoleon, wouldn't Princess Perlipat already have been decapitated by revolutionaries?

The Pirlipat story takes place hundreds of years before Napoleon. Since Hans was frozen in time and Drosselmeyer's magic, they also lived until Napoleon's time.

that is awesome, I can imagine Han's future shock
Hans: So in the time that I was a nutcracker, there was a hundred year war over the holy land, a plague killed one third of Europe, new land on the other side of the world that contains a population of red people that was conquered by the British, the settlers in this new land revolted against Britain and formed their own country, and this revolution inspired the people of France to decapitate their monarchs and many other people until a dictator by the name of Napoleon took over and is now concurring the entire world as we speak?
Drosselmeyer: That is correct
Hans: *brain explosion*

wait, scratch that last part, Napoleon was dead when this movie takes place (1887), but I think the industrial revolution was just beginning in England. Dear God, that poor boy

wait, wiki says it takes place in 1816, Napoleon was not dead, but he was certainly defeated and placed under house arrest at this point.
