You right it is out of sorts. I was trying to caricature him, but it turned into a portrait instead. The problem with doing a caricature of Walt is how do you exagerate his face and still keep him instantly recognizable. I think I worked from the wrong reference photo. It came out good but short of my intended goal...oh well. Better luck next time.

Oh it is recognizable!! I totally understand the caricature style sorry I thought it was a more realistic painting as you've got a lot of detail in it still I love the piece!!! X

Yeah, it was an attempt at caricature that went south. Still, I kind of like it.

Got it.
Mickey is so hard because all the spheres have to fit just right and be the correct proportion or it won't look like Mickey. I always draw his nose to long and he looks like a rat. Then to paint Mickey to give him dimension was a bit tricky. Plus I had photo reference of Walt in that pose, but not Mickey.

ah I see, he is a character with a lot of components
did he look any good as a rat? sounds pretty interesting

I heard he was notoriously cantankerous behind the scenes. I find that dichotomy fascinating. There needs to be a movie about the guy, one that doesn't just kiss his ass.
Heard he once kicked a security guards ass denying him entrance to his own studio.

I'm a huge fan of illustrator Bill Pete who was a Disney animator for a long time and in his autobiography he talks about Walts temper. He probably was a very over the top guy to create what he created. I agree I would love to hear some of the nitty gritty Disney stories.

*looks up Bill Pete* I've heard of him before somewhere, but only vaguely.

He's a childrens book illustrator that created several very cool books. Very rough animated style to his books, just ink and colored pencil.
Check out his books at the library, I think you'll like them.

Great work man! I'm a big fan of Walt myself. In January I'll be heading to LA to see some of Disney's former stomping grounds.
