Its super hard if you try to do it manually. Anywho, this tutorial explains how to use a Photoshop filter called offset, which moves the image layer, and causes it to wrap around to the other side.
I have one tip for when you use it. Whatever you do, do not move any of your layers unless you use the offset filter. If you move anything on your layer by dragging with your mouse, it will cut off a portion of that layer when you use the offset filter.

I used the charcoal brush in Photoshop. It mixes the two selected colors depending on the pen pressure. Its a pretty cool brush. And I used the offset filter to make it seamless
