Hello! I come here fromΒ ProjectComment to drop a comment over!

First off I like how the description fits the graceful and seemingly delicate koi in the picture. Using soft colours and soft shading, as well as colouring in the fins very lightly to make it almost transparent. Very nicely done.

Next off I'd like to talk about the hair. The hair is really flowy! It's awesome, but let's talk about the flow of it. While the hair has all the waves, the lighting on the hair seems to "neglect" it. On most parts there's given lighting with a circle, which seems to be a common thing for people when giving lighting to hairs. However, if seems to disrupt the flow of the hair, especially the curved line that represents lighting that is the second streak from the left (on hair). The curved line doesn't follow the flow of the hair represented by the outline. In addition, some of the lighting that appears in the hair confuses where light might be from (left, but bottom side, or top, or middle?), as parts blocked by the other hair creates lighting instead of shadows instead (like the lock of hair that should cast a shadow or at least cut off the lighting from the second lighting streak from the left).

Next off would be shading! I have started a bit about this on the point above. While from the hair and upper body, you have demonstrated the lighting to come from the left side, the bottom half of the tail (not the fin-like part) the shadow shifts to the other side where the side is supposed to be hit by light. I'm not sure why you made this shift, because it corrects itself in the fin-part. However in the rest parts of the fins seem to lack the harsher shading displayed on the tail, which is nice to look at it's softness (like a translucent fin would be!) however it seems to throw the inconsistency of style, as well as looking too faded. In addition, even if the light source is from the left, I think that there should be shadows on the left side of the face which shows shadows from the hair. Please keep a light source position in mind when colouring a piece and determine which are the items that block the light, casting shadows. The further from the light, the darker the shadows.

Lastly, design. This is mostly opinion based, but I think that the character is unidentifiable as a koi-creature at first glance. The simplicity of this character has a magical feel to it, almost as if being difficult to see or even identify or hold, like a spirit. I like the idea of that. However, you didn't portray the being enough as a "koi"- which I assume the koi you picked for this character is the "tancho kohaku". First part is probably the lack of identifying points. In exchange of their barbels it seems like you have replaced them with long hair, reducing one of the notable characteristics of a koi. In addition, as this character is simple, you decided not to place scales (or hints of them), which gives viewers the impression of a silky body instead of a scaled one. Lastly, koi eyes! The koi eyes aren't exactly entirely black, removing another trait to identify the character as a fish. The pure black eyes seems to give an impression of a being related to the undead instead (for me).

That's all I have to say for now. I hope this comment helps, and have a nice day!

I Really liked how simple it is. While yes it would look more appealing with a darker backdrop, I think the fact it fades away into the background gives it more of a translucent and spiritual aesthetic. Really beautiful.

Thank you ^^
I would admit that I was kinda scared of darkening the background, since dark red is often associated with danger and other wonderful things, and since that was not what I was going for I backed away. I could have make it blue but I felt like it would have came out of nowhere, you know, a blue background on a entirely white and red character, so I thought that a light, pinkish red would have been a nice compromise.
Looking back at it, yeah, making it darker would have been the right choice here ^_^'

I really like the design of this. It's cute and mysterious and looks like it could've jumped straight out of a Tim Burton film. Did you design it yourself or is it inspired by a show, comic, film etc.?

It's beautiful, but....do you have one with a darker background? It would make the details come out...
