Background lore for 's "Song of the Nomad's" Pathfinder game, featuring Cynartria, the mother of one of the party. Seen in a flashback a hundred years in the past, to the elves of the cold North, living in their harbours and fishing villages. On one night when the trolls swam up from out of the sea. When Vamis the elf, watched their expectant mother step up to defend her home.

The old mother-to be go onto her feet and took up the keen blade of her weapon. The silver-grey streaks to her hair shimmered in the light and for a second she was a warrior Princess of old stories, bathed in moonlight glow as she stared at the massive creature out in the street. A troll. With skin a wrinkled grey, it’s body hanging with the shrivelled scalps and remains of its foes. It’s forehead was bloated and swollen, it’s maw filled with drooling, slavering teeth. The elder troll's very presence seemed to make it colder. Where it stepped leaving a trail of fresh ice and hardening snow. It's frozen breath sublimating into crystals. Even it's drool gathered in icicles along its jaw as a beard of solid ice.
Cynatria levelled her blade and lifted her hand. From her long nails, white light flickered as she locked eyes with the beast. Her ears roared with blood rushing through her body. She could feel kicks in her middle. “Leave” she demanded, layering her voice with magical threat as a much as you could. “Be on your way”
The elder troll lumbered over, baring its teeth in a hideous grin. "Maaaatriarch....." the troll groaned.

Trolls are cannibalistic creatures who gain attributes from their prey, this troll having fed on the massive Northern whales and the elves to give itself aquatic abilities and a long life. Trolls with powers of magic are rare, but all the more dangerous.
