Laying here, watching the rain fall,
I am struck by a sudden revelation,
One that taunts and teases my mind.

How many of these falling drops,
These tiny spheres of liquid life,
Have come into contact with you?

Was the one that landed on my cheek,
A tear you shed in a moment of pain,
Of weakness, despair, or mourning?

Was the one that landed on my hand,
A bead of sweat wiped from your brow,
When you were proving your strength?

Is the one trickling down my chest,
A bead of water that caressed yours,
As you washed life down the drain?

That tiny droplet of water on my lips,
Did it ever caress your parched ones,
As you were slaking a terrible thirst?

So, I lay here, watching the rain fall,
Wondering if you ever realized this:
We will always be together in the rain.
