(Tried to stop myself. I couldn't. lets do this. My char's name will be Clement (meaning gentle/merciful) and will be naga-like. He'll be naga-style, about ten feet from tail to head with the lower body of a mojave green rattle snake: www.blm.gov/ca/forms/wildlife/… (You see these guys a lot where I live. They have one of the most potent venoms of any Mojave rattle snake, but they're also the most docile. You need to practically step on them before they'll bite you.) His hair will, of course, be made up of the same snakes. his skin will be almost sickly pale and he'll have dark olive green eyes.)
Clement blinked a few times. Well that wasn't supposed to happen. His rattle was shaking irritably up in the tree as he kept eye contact. What gives, he should have a new statue to talk to now! Even his hair looked confused. One of them moved forward to bite the human and he flicked it irritably. "Bad." He hissed at it, then took another look at their guest. His eyes widened when he realized why the human was still non-mineral. He was blind! "Oh my..." he muttered, allowing himself to fall from the tree. "Who are you?' he asked. Part of him was getting exited. Someone he could look at without killing them! Someone who might actually talk back when talked to! Of course, he had to keep himself sounding human, otherwise he might run away... with that in mind he cut it out with the rattle.

(I LOVE YOUR GORGON SO MUCH)
(Pale gray eyes, the natural dark color just barely lining them, dark olive skin, and shoulder-length black hair that's pulled back into a short ponytail.)
Asa stumbled back at the sound of what was unmistakably a rattlesnake, seemingly jumping in front of him...only to hear a person speak. He relaxed slightly, gripping a wooden walking stick that had twisted and warped from the elements. "I, uh...my name's Asa. Yours?" He replied a little distractedly, tilting his head to try and listen for the rustle of scales. He could swear he'd heard them... "Did you see a snake? I thought I heard a rattle over here." Something stranger occurred to him. Why was there a person in this forest? It was supposed to be incredibly dangerous, or at least, that was what he'd been told; the possibly imaginary snake was the most dangerous thing he'd encountered.

(XD Thank you)
Clement held up a hand when the boy started to back up, but then remembered that wouldn't exactly do much good. Thankfully he calmed down after hearing his voice, the only human thing about him really. "Asa... nice name." He said. "Mine is Clement." He said with a smile, reveling in the fact he was having an actual conversation with another living creature. It had been so long since the last time, he had forgotten it entirely. He frowned when asked if he saw a snake. "No, I don;'t think so. There are a few rattlers in this forest, but as long as your careful you'll be fine. After all, you don't bother them, they don't bother you." He said. "What may I ask brings you down this path? Very few people take it nowadays."

"Thanks." Asa settled down, deciding it had just been his imagination. "It was supposed to be faster, although I think I'm a little lost." He gave a short laugh, adding, "I was gonna ask you the same question. The village a-ways back said nobody had been down here in quite some time, but apparently they were wrong." They'd vaguely mentioned a monster of some kind, but he'd dismissed that as superstition. Not to mention, if there was a person here that seemed to be doing just fine, it wasn't likely there was a monster in the same area, right?

Clement was glad to see him calm down a bit, relaxing slightly in his own coils. He frowned when he said he was lost, though it wasn't exactly surprising given the fact he was blind, after all. "i could likely help you be on your way, but I'd have to leave you before you got out of the forest.... I'm not well liked in town, you see." He said, hoping that would be excuse enough. He smirked when he mentioned the village he had last been in warning him of this path. "Well, actually, they're right. I live nearby, which is why I;'m here, but for the most part people tend to avoid the place. They say there's a, and they actually believe this, mind you, a gorgon, living in this forest." He said, laughing a bit to himself. A couple of the serpents in his head rolled their eyes at him, and he glared back. Was it so wrong for him to have some fun?

Asa nodded, the mention of a gorgon piquing his interest. "Really? I'd heard there was a grove of statues, I thought I'd try and find it. Maybe that's where the legends came from." He replied, before realizing the first thing Clement had said. "Oh! No, I'm fine." He laughed. "I don't really have much to do with myself, so I like to wander a little." This stranger was a little...well, strange. He talked perfectly normally, but for some reason, his voice was...off. Different.

He nodded. "Yes, there is actually. It;s not far, i could take you there if you'd like. Some of them are pretty amazing. I think the reason people think there might be a gorgon out here is because whoever sculpted them made them look like they were terrified." he said. he was glad this human hadn't suspected anything from him yet. He frowned at that last statement, wondering why his voice sounded a bit different. "Is that so? Where are you from originally, if I may ask." he said, thinking it might be an accent.

(I just wanna clarify really quick haha, I meant that Asa is just thinking that Clement's voice is a little strange. Just in case, cause I think I might've written that a little vaguely.)
Asa grinned. "Really? Now, that's an offer I'd take you up on. I like sculptures, they're...easier to see, I suppose. Can't look at art, you know, so this is the next best thing." He didn't sound upset, laughing lightly. "I'm from a few countries over. Fell into a bit of a tough spot, so I've been traveling and finding work as I go." He answered, keeping his answer nonspecific.

He smiled, morbidly exited to show off his work to someone interested in seeing it. Hey, the majority of them had been killed in self-defense anyway! He nodded and took his hand, without thinking about his claws. "Alright then, I'll take you there." He said, strating to gently pull him along, careful to lower himself to a normal human pace. He nodded as he explained himself. "I guess you don;t really have that many ling term friends , with a life like that?' he asked.

(No problem )
Asa jumped a bit when Clement grabbed his hand, quickly relaxing and allowing himself to be led along. Some...crazy nails he had. And no matter how hard he listened, the traveler couldn't hear any footsteps. Eerie. Something uneasy settled in his gut, but he didn't let himself think on it; that was ridiculous. "Uh, no, not really." He answered, giving a short chuckle and trying to settle back down. "I didn't have many before I started traveling, though, so it doesn't bother me much. And you? You mentioned the villagers don't like you. I don't see why not, though, you seem perfectly friendly to me."

He bit his lip when it sounded like he frightened the human. He hoped he wasn't suspecting anything, there were certain things he couldn't cover up. He frowned as he listened t him explain. "That's... unfortunate." He said softly. Well, for him. For Clement it just gave another thing to like about this human. They both had no friends. He quickly thought up a lie when asked why the villagers didn't. "I have a birthmark all over half of my face. they think it's some kind of evil omen, or some such nonsense." He said. His snakes looked at him incredulously, and he hissed quietly at them.

"Oh. Well, that won't bother me." Asa laughed, twitching at what sounded like a tiny...something. He couldn't quite make it out. "So, how long have you lived here?" Even though he was being led, his walking stick lightly tapped the ground in front of him, making sure there were no obstructions to trip over.

(It's no problem ^^)
Clement chuckled lightly. "I suppose it wouldn't, would it?' he asked, noting the twitch. he would have to be a little more subtle when dealing with his little 'friends' while Asa was around. he gave them all a look that said, 'One more interruption and I start splitting some ends', then went back to Asa. "I've actually been out int he for most of my life, my parents were kind of recluses. Oh, we;re here." he said as they finally entered his grove.Well, it wasn;t so much a grove as it was a small clearing leading up to a cave, Clement's home. But he wouldn;t be bringing the human in there. "The statues are all over the place, and some have broken a bit over the years, so be careful not to trip over an arm or anything." he said.

(So you don't have to do this I know we have a lot going on right now but I thought I might just...bring this one to your attention shadowdancer172.deviantart.com… )
Asa nodded, slipping his hand out of Clement's grip as he headed forward, moving to the first statue his walking stick clacked softly against. He ignored the trace of what felt like claws against his skin as he did so.
He lifted a hand, feeling along the statue until he reached its face. He stiffened in surprise, leaning to place the stick on the ground before examining the statue's face with both hands. He could tell it was contorted in terror, cold, smooth stone, but... "It's so...real..." He breathed, seeming amazed and a little troubled. "If it wasn't so cold, I would think this was a real person. There isn't a single detail out of place." He paused, half-turning in the direction he'd last felt the stranger in. "Do we know who made these?"

(believe me, I'm saving that one for later XD)
Clement watched Asa go to the statues, keeping an eye on him so he wouldn't. hey, it was the first maybe-friend he had ever made, he was allowed to be protective. He watched him feel the statue, likely the only way he could see it, and frowned when he stiffened up. At the question, he had to take a few moments to think about wait, all the while the snakes giving him pointed looks. "I've never seen them. i think they were made a long time ago, probably to scare off people for some reason." he said, liking that explanation. He noticed one of the statues was a bit off, and he gently adjusted it so it was standing up straight. 'There you go Reginald' He thought, patting it on the head.

(This is what I've always thought of with gorgons. Awkward, shy, maybe a little unstable but overall not evil. It may come from the fact that I know the actual story of Medusa, and I just wanna give her a hug and some cookies sooo bad. She doesn't deserve to be the villain. I've always imagined the snakes as being less like pets and more like siblings)
Clement frowned when he heard the suspicion in Asa's voice, shaking his head slowly. His snakes started to hiss happily, glad they were finally dispensing with the pretense of Clement being human. The gorgon tried his best to get them to quiet down, at one point grabbing a bunch of them and nearly throttling them, but it was too late, the damage was done."I... um, I..." He began, but how could he explain away his walking, or lack there of. "P-Please, don't overreact. I don't... I didn't bring you here to hurt you..." He was unraveling fast. "I... I never wanted to kill nay of them..." he finally said, sealing his guilt. "Please believe me..."

(Me too! It's always kinda irritated me how they killed her in the myth - beheaded in her sleep, it's a little cowardly, yanno? She was just a person before everyone demonized her. Me too, I actually have Jay as a kinda gorgon in a different AU.)
Asa tensed at the hissing sounds, startled. He listened with growing unease as Clement's voice wavered, feeling ice run through his veins at the last words. "Oh," He began, sounding almost strangled, beginning to take an instinctive step back. His foot caught the stone leg of the statue that he'd forgotten was behind him, falling back and slamming his head on, naturally, one of the broken-off arms he'd been warned about. His walking stick fell to the ground, head lolling to the side as he was knocked out.

(Especially considering the whole reason she was cursed in the first place was because Poseidon date-raped her in Athena's temple)
Clement shook his head. "Please, Asa, I- w-watch out!" He called when he saw the human start to fall back, slithering forward. "O-Oh please don't be dead..." he said, lowing himself. He felt for a pulse and breathed a sigh of relief. "Just unconscious..." He muttered. A few of the snakes hissed disappointingly at this news. Ignoring them, Clement gently picked up the human and slithered into his den. It was his fault this happened, he should have just let the boy go on his way. He should have known better, the only friends a gorgon was supposed to have were stone. How could he have been so foolish as to think he could break that simple law of nature. He set the boy down on a bed of furs, intending to guide him out of the forest the minute he woke up. 'I should never have even tried...'

(I know, right? Poseidon was the one to be mad at, not Medusa.)
A few hours later, Asa groaned, lifting a hand to rub shakily at his throbbing head. It took a few seconds to remember what had happened, wondering if it was a dream - but he wasn't in any place he remembered, and the way the minute sounds he made echoes sounded like he was in a cave. "Cl-" He tried to say, voice failing in his throat at first. "Clement?" He croaked out, feeling incredibly exposed. He had no idea where he was, rather afraid to even move much, and worst of all - his way of seeing, his walking stick, was nowhere near him. Surprisingly enough, it wasn't the idea of the stranger being a monster that scared him; it was the idea of being alone and lost.

Clement was actually nearby. holding Asa's walking stick. He set it beside him, it clattering slightly as it landed. "Sorry I took it. I didn't want you running off as soon as you woke up and getting lost. I'm not the only vicious beast in this forest." His voice was so different now. Icy, dejected... and behind it all, very sad. He slithered forward, helping him to sit up. "How do you feel? Light headed at all?" He just wanted to get the human out of his den and out of his forest. The snakes, at the moment, ere tied up in a sort-of ponytail, keeping them out of Clement's sight and where they wouldn't be able to sink their fangs into the human boy. Even now, Clement didn;t want to kill him. He had inconvenienced him, so he's make it right, but after that he wanted nothing mroe to do with Asa, or humans in general for a good long while.

"I'm...I'm fine." Asa murmured, finding this all very surreal. As Clement helped him up, he took the gorgon's hand between both of his own, feeling the tips of what he now knew were claws with a timid curiosity. The dejected way he was speaking troubled the human boy; he hadn't even said anything about him being a monster, yet. Slowly, he lifted a hand, stopping a few inches away from Clement's face. "Um...can I...I mean, this is how I look at people. Is that...alright?" He wanted to see if his theory was correct - those were too many hisses for one throat.

Clement didn't pull his hand away, at this point there was no use in trying to keep it hidden. "Go right ahead." he said softly, waiting for Asa to put his hands on his face, feel his clammy skin, and eventually find his way to his hair, which would cement it. Then he would scream, Clement would calm him long enough to get him out of the forest, and he would go right back to freezing every human who came to slaughter him. His snakes were hissing irritably., trying to break their bonds so they could snap at the boy's hand.

Asa swallowed, lowering his hands. He was surprised to find it almost gaunt, colder than it should be. He heard the snakes hissing, wanting to ask if they'd bite him, but...there was something else he wanted to do. His hands moved tentatively upwards, sliding over Clement's forehead. They flinched and stopped when fingertips brushed smooth, bumpy scales, a sharp gasp in his chest. But it was only for a moment before he continued, a breathless smile on his face as he traced gently over the bodies he could feel moving, genuinely alive. This was a real gorgon. He couldn't decide why his heart was ramming against his ribcage; terror, or awe.
"W-Wow." He managed, a little nervous to move any farther back with the hisses he'd heard; getting bitten by what he suspected were rattlesnakes didn't sound pleasant. "They, uh...don't like me, huh."

Clement didn't move as the human touched his face, seeing him, in a manner of speaking, for what he was. He watched him touch the base of the serpents, his fearfulness likely because he didn't know they were tied back. He winced a bit at the flinch... then looked confused as he continued to feel them. Wasn't he afraid? That would be a perfectly logical response at the moment, not that Clement was complaining. he rolled his eyes at the comment. "They don't like anyone. Little buggers need to be trimmed." he said, earning a series of frightened hisses. Clement gave a satisfied smirk. "That's right boys, knock off the crap or I might just decide the shaved look is in."

WHen he mentioned that he liked snakes, the hissing became considerably less hostile, and Clement rolled his eyes. "Don't say that, you'll make the little bastards get swelled heads." They all hissed sharply at him. Clement sighed. "You know no one likes you when your hair won;t even talk to you..." he muttered to himself. He was amazed that Asa was taking this so well... maybe he had misjudged him. He nodded at the question abotu the rattle, shaking it to demonstrate. "Yup, that was me. Don;t know why i would need it. "Whoa!" Asa said, a look of childlike delight on his face. He hadn't thought anything like this really existed, and while there was a slightly creepy knowledge that the person he was talking to had killed an entire grove of people - on accident, for however much that meant - he was more caught up in the wonder of it all. "Does that mean you have a tail? Can I see it?" He asked, pulling himself up to sit cross-legged.

Clement couldn't help but smile at the look on Asa's face, so unused to curiosity regarding him, rather than terror. It was definitely a nice change of pace, and one he could get used to easily. He blushed when asked about his tail, nodding. "OF course I have a tail, where else would the rattle be?" he chuckled, slowly moving it so that it was practically on his lap. He gave the rattle another little shake so he would know where it was. This was absolutely amazing to him, knowing that there was someone out there who didn;t hate him simply for what he was born as.

Asa stilled, pressing his lips together and resisting the urge to squirm excitedly. He ran his fingers over the bumpy surface of an absolutely enormous rattle, larger than any from regular rattlesnakes, and then down the smooth scales of a similarly gigantic tail. He was practically breathless, unable to help the ear-to-ear grin that spread over his face. "That's amazing! No wonder I couldn't hear you walking, I can't believe this!" Clement smiled just a little bit, blushing slightly. His snakes, the vain little bastards, seemed placated by the boy's words, their hissing sounding almost appreciative. He watched the human feel over his tail and rattle, shaking it every so often in an attempt to amuse him. "I'm glad you like it." He said, then frowned. He only said that because he couldn't see it... what if he could? Would he be disturbed? Frightened? He sighed, pushing it from his mind. All that matters is that he finally had a friend.

Asa suddenly seemed to falter, looking up in Clement's direction. "So...you've...you've killed people? You can turn them to stone?" He asked tentatively. He wasn't exactly scared - clearly the gorgon hadn't done it on purpose, from the way he spoke, and he was positive they'd made eye contact at least once, so he knew he wasn't in danger. Clement frowned at the change in expression, wondering what had happened. He sighed when he got his answer, nodding slowly. "Yes... I have. And yes I can." he said. "Any living thing that looks directly into my eyes, even another gorgon, is instantly turned to stone. Incidentally, gorgons spend the first few years of their lives blind, that way their mother can bail before anything bad happens." He said softly. "And yes, on occasion, I have done it intentionally... but only when it was self defense." He lied. He had killed out of malice before, in fact he had intended to do it to Asa, but it was only because of how frustrated he was with his life.
