I like this one too, I was very lucky that she decided to fly directly my way while screeching her head off!

WOW! What an incredible shot!! ...Bloody hell. I used to be afraid of eagle owls as a kid (my parents told me that they could pick children up and carry them off. THANKS, parents). That's one hell of an intense expression. I'm kinda scared!

hehehe they do carry off deer so a small child wouldn't be too much of a problem... acutally one of the bird of prey centers I know does have an eagle owl that goes for kids, the demonstrator has to ask parents to hold onto their kids so they don't run around during the show otherwise she'll chase them!

Glad you like it, she's just being noisy and chatty is all

...WHAT?! I thought my parents were just teasing me. Uh. I'll be staying indoors from now on, then.

Although it is pretty funny that they have an owl who deliberatly goes for kids. XD

This is absolutely stunning! Especially with the mouth open and direct eye contact like that. Great job!

I would suggest trying to edit out those leather strap thingies on this one if possible. Not a big deal, but this photo has so much potential.

Thanks Dave!

I did think about trying to edit out the jesses but 1. I'm not great at cloning and 2. I don't want people to get confused and think I'm trying to pass this off as a wild bird (which some people do think, even though on all my captive shots I put the facility they where shot in). Will give it a try though and see how it turns out, I agree that it would look much better without them.

You're welcome Kelly.

I understand what you mean about people thinking you may be trying to pass it off as if it were in the wild. But I suppose you could always put that in the comment. There are some programs that make it super easy to clone. Picasa (free from Google) has a tool called Retouch and it would remove it in probably about 30 seconds.

I'll have to have a go, I've got quite a few shots that would benefit from it so would be a good idea to get better at it.

luck, timing and picking the right spot before they started the demonstration (and having a high shutter speed helps too!)
