Description One of the mum/pup pairs I was doing obs on today

The mum wanted to feed the little guy, but he wasn't having any of it! He's probably about a week old.

My PhD is primarily about maternal behaviour in these seals, so I get to spend a lot of time watching them

Please note, this photograph was taken from a hide during a routine survey of the breeding colony, please do not approach or disturb breeding seals with pups. Mothers will abandon pups if people come too close, and then the pups will starve to death.

Long time ago I spent time on dA, and a long long time I saw your pictures, they really became even better and more balanced, love them and can't stop fav'ing them. How is your PhD going ? What exactly are you investigating, I remember something vaguely about hormonal differences ?

I'm glad you are still enjoying my work! The PhD is going well (I think! Kinda hard to tell sometimes!) yes I am doing behavioural and hormones, looking at maternal investment and behaviour specifically

Sounds like a very entertaining subject (at least to me). If once you have it all worked and typed out, I would love to read it. Part of my choice now was evolutionary biology and I'm interested in paternal effects too as it plays a strong role in the eventual survival and eventual passing on of your genome. Just loved the initial course last semester

I can wait, I'm also waiting for a PhD on orchids in the Viroin valley, a calcareous terrain here in Belgium on which I also did my bachelor end terms
