Great use of shadow, mirroring Shepards struggle with darkness. And those eyelashes are amazing, so detailed and lush. She looks very serious and determined, go Shepard!

I like this! How long did it take for you to make this??
ShadesOfTruth In reply to RagingNerd [2013-11-08 08:42:18 +0000 UTC]
Thank you! I didn't really do it in one continuous sitting but I would put the total time spent somewhere around 5-6 hours.

Oh wow... I have to admit, I'm in total awe of digital artists, would like to learn to do that myself, but I have NO idea where or with what to start

I would suggest choosing a style that you wish to learn. For me, I take inspiration from artists like Genzoman and artgerm (also in DA). Then I go to youtube/google looking for tutorials that would teach me the basics. There are good ones around in youtube. I do recommend using a pen and tablet to save your wrist.

Thank you for replying a poor n00b
And youtube is a real blessing in terms of tutorials, it's amazing... And it's actually nice there's more than cat videos on the net Oh, so you prefer using tablet rather than paper and pencil??
ShadesOfTruth In reply to RagingNerd [2013-11-08 15:13:17 +0000 UTC]
Well I do not prefer tablet over paper & pencil per se but for digital art, I prefer drawing directly in Photoshop since it would cut down on efforts in cleaning lines and inking them. Youtube indeed has been very helpful. Livestream is also another website I would point you to. Look for your preferred artists' styles and watch them create their masterpieces live if you catch it but otherwise it's a video log wherein they would usually explain their process or you could simply observe and pick up on things.
