Description A portrait of June when she was around 19, commissioned after her service in the war.

Aerorwen 's doing a bunch of portraits for Women's History Month so I was inspired to pitch in X'D I decided to paint this in the style of 19th century portraits to emulate what portraits in the story might look like. It was like doing a master study except from scratch, so it was good practice!

The background is really nice, I like how you can see the texture of the "canvas" through the "paint"

Hello! I love the expression, it is very subtle.
I have a technical question. Which brushes and blending (options of fusion) did you use? As for here Exeter Industries  ?
I see that light/effect in digital works but I cannot ask many artists, they don't care to say usually

Thank you!
If you're specifically asking about the glowing effect in the Exeter Industries piece- I used a very large soft airbrush that can easily create soft gradients. I kind of forget where I picked the brush up from, but I can give it to you if you'd like! To create the glow effect, I used blending options like Overlay, Soft Light, Color Dodge, and Linear Dodge (Add) on a darker background. Divide can also be pretty handy.
And as for general brushes, I experimented with Kyle's brushes with these two pieces. They were great at creating textures!
Hope that answered your question! I can clarify more if not.

Most certainly, it sounds silly of me but I've just realized that when I blend layers, it could be not the right layers. I mean, I very often blend two different versions of the same drawing. It is an interesting habit, actually, to get a mix of two selected versions, but it darkens the work quite a lot, and the general harmony of the drawing is not warranted. I shall try to blend a layer of one color (a lighter color then) to the darker background.

Thank you you for the brushes, will try them for sure!

Sorry, I probably didn't explain that so well XD You take a lighter color using the soft brush and apply one of the blending options listed above. The effect will work best if it's on top of a layer with a darker background.
Hope that works out for the piece you're painting! Looking forward to seeing it
I also sometimes overlay previous versions of the image on top to keep the original color or see if I can get an interesting combo with the blending options. Perfectly normal XD

The brush mega packs are huge and high quality- definitely worth the price!

This is absolutely stunning holy hell.
Like just looking at the brush strokes even and it was digitally done like aaa ;v;
You did an absolutely incredible job.

Love this subdued colour palette! It has just the right amount of lighter and darker colours to bring it to life. Beautiful work

Thanks so much! I definitely benefited from the reference painting and tried to keep my lighting similar. I'm glad that comes across!

wow it really looks like a 19th century portrait :'D (I only know from the reference picture, anything I studied on 19th century art is in a dusty corner of my brain and cannot be accessed.)

June looks pretty badass with her medal :3c
