shadows can work well for a photo but there is always the problem of the photo appearing 'flat' especially if the shadow is displayed across a flat surface
try and incorporate an object into the photo which interacts with the shadows

well firstly these are just my own opinions - what could work for you could be something different.
your picture features what seems to be a flat pavement with a shadow across it - for me that makes the picture seem very flat - with no depth to it whatsoever. if you placed an object in the shot in the middle of the shadow it might have given it that depth.
