Description ACEO trade with *WildernessSpirits of her cute little fox OC, Wisp.
She's popped her little head out from behind that log there

I really like how this came out! Love the colors and the background and I didn't COMPLETELY fail at making her look like a fox! YEAY -pats self on the back-
Though I kinda feel like I messed up the character design somehow?

Here's her half: [link]

Mediums: sharpies, prisma color pencils and ink pens

Once again... the ears are awesome.

I like the texture of the moss, how did you achieve that anyway?
The cracks in the log are awesome. You're good at creating different textures with colored pencil. The angle of the trees in the background suggests that She is looking down. Only thing I can suggest here is some more dramatic shading on her face to emphasize that. I looked up a few examples to kinda show what I mean- they aren't foxes, but the concept is the same.

Notice how there are really bright parts that highlight the edge of her face, but the part that's down is shadowed.

here as well, the only parts that really aren't shadowed are the parts being hit by light- like the tip of his nose and the top of his head.

I hope that made sense. >.<; Sometimes I suck completely at wording things...

As for the actual shape of the fox. You did really well on making her different than the way you draw wolves and showing that she is a different creature, but still canine. I notice it most with the slender snout, though the larger ears help as well. The coloring is very warm and contrasts well with the blue-green of the bushes in the background and I like that you omitted portions of the cord for the necklace to imply that portions are hidden under tufts of fur. Overall wonderful job.

See and that's why I fricking LOVE critiques! When I was drawing this I wasn't really even thinking about lighting or shadows that much.. I was all ptthhhhp fox in the woods derpderp! lol! but the examples you provided serve as a really good refs for future pictures. That and that I need to be more conscious of my shadows and light sources.. because really... I just screw around and slap them everywhere >_> LMAO!

Believe it or not I was having a lot of trouble making her look like a fox.. every time I sketched something then compare it to a fox I'd be all "DAMNIT!! STAHP LOOKING LYK A WULF D:" really the coloring is what saves my ass on it.. because even with the smaller snout and eye/ear to head ratio .. still looks very lupine like xD.

As for the moss.. I color the light parts first in a circular motion - kinda like a preschooler drawing clouds or curly hair and I try to vary pressure so that there is a slight color variation. Then I get a green pen (or sharpie in this case) and do stippling dots in the darker areas and concentrate more dots in the shaded edge areas. In most cases, since I have a build-up of pencil color underneath, I can actually scrape away and extra sharpie color with like my fingernail if I mess up or anything. I think the stippling helps it looks semi fuzzy or spongy!

Haha! Glad I could be of help. Honestly- I SUCK at lighting and light sources myself, I really should be taking my own advice. lol. I try to make sure you have a good hold on what I am trying to say, and pictures and references can really help you wrap your mind on something artistically. It's easy to come up with the basic idea in your head, but sometimes the details can get a bit tricky.

I think you did very well showing that she is a fox. Sometimes you are a bit too hard on yourself, but I guess that can't be too bad- since it means you are always striving to get better. It just sucks that you can't see the beauty of your own work sometimes.

Ahh, that makes sense. Wouldn't even have thought of that, honestly. But it does work very well. Makes the moss look very soft and plush.

Thank you!! I'm appreciate the kind words! I use a lot of fine-pointed art supplies to get as much detail as I can. Plus I feel the more details you can add the more it brings the artwork together

I'm glad you like it! It's one of my best ACEOs yet! I really do love the little scene I placed her in !!

ACEOs are very addicting! Especially for someone like me who lacks the motivation to complete larger pieces -with these I can submit art more frequently and trading originals in card form is brilliant!
