Description On his way to school one foggy morning he heard a voice above his head, and looked up to see Rictus floating down from the clouds, his coat swelled up around him so that he looked fatter than a prize pig.
"Howya doin'?" he said, as he descended.

A beautiful piece. I like the way you can only see a wry smile underneath his hat, as he descends from the clouds. This captures a wonderful feeling of pure fantasy.

I like it when that happens, things turning out more sinister than expected. It really works in your piece though.

Ah, yes. More time would be greatly appreciated.
I look foward to seeing more of your work.

You have an emoticon with a chainsaw. How brilliant is that!

Ah, how I'd like to have a printer that'd connect to my head and simply print it all out!
Yep, I have a sheet of paper at my fridge's door with the list of must-draws, but those bastards still haunt me until I draw them + some of them continue to do so even after I finish them - they don't like some details and so on...
Just uploaded a new Thief pic... but I'll go mad if I don't do something gory real quick!

LizzieLupine In reply to SerhiyKrykun [2011-03-01 11:41:37 +0000 UTC]

I know that 'Must do gory' feeling. It is an urge that must be satisfied. Maybe some of the haunted drawing can be used for this purpose. Slipping the odd bit of gory, even if in the background, can be quite theraputic.

Brain printer. That would be ideal although, for me, I think I may damage it with some of the things that wizz thorugh my mind. They would have to make some sort of saftey device that went with it to prevent it from exploding from dark thoughts.(insert an emoticon with it's head exploding)

Particular moments... Of course! You've seen one above + an episode near the end of "Shivers", where heroine talks about sex - so thoughtful and sensual... A scene in "Videodrome" where Blondie extinguishes her cigarette against her breast... Jude Law licking the orifice in Jennifer Jason Leigh's spine...

I'm not surprised he senses it. There are a plethora of sexually thoughtful moments to choose from in his movies. The fusion of organic and machine in Naked lunch has always had an air of erotic fascination. 'Tis Spring. How repellent.

Tom Ligotti, eh? I'll have to jot that one down. I've just finished warping my head with Kraken by China Mieville. That guy has the most amazing way of writing and uses combinations of words I would never have even thought were, well, real words.

I will do. I am working on a series of pieces at the moment called Love and other such sicknesses. I'm not sure when they'll be up bu I will let you know when they are. They are slightly different from what I usually do.

China! I've read "Rat King", but it seemed a bit shallow to me. All my friends keep nagging me to read "The Scar" - I have the book - but I'm a stubborn bastard! I will, that's for sure, but other writings keep distracting me...

Looking forward to the sicknesses! A perfectly Ligottian title for a set of pictures, btw

Sometimes books need the right time to be read. These things are not good when rushed. I find Alan Moore's stuff is like that, I have to wait...sometimes years. So be a stubborn bastard and hold out. That evil ninja is nicking your bowl of grass.

I couldn't really say anything about China's other works because I haven't gotten around to them yet. It's that time thing again. Pfft!

How is the ole writing going?

Why thank you very much. I liked his Nightmare Factory. Now that's a perfect title.

Ole writing? Which one exactly? I forgot I told something about writing I've currently into translation - just finished a nice article on Ligotti from here [link] Now I'm about to delve into a story by Robert Chambers and it's going to be tough.

I haven't read the "Factory" - Ligotti can be dangerous in large quantities, like Lovecraft... I'm reading "Teatro Grotesco" now, but I'm not sure if I want to finish all the stories in a go... I think, I need a break or I won't ever get rid of this f**king depression!

I think Grant Morrison in The Invisibles sorted that time thing out for us. His explanation of alernate dimensions/universes is mind warping yet strangely common sense.

You were talking about some writing that was distracting you from doing art. That was the writing I was referring to. Did I just make up as whole segment of your life that you aer yet to live?

Thank you for the Ligotti warning. I must admit that I haven't read that much of his work to have created such melancholia. But I have jotted down those titles for future reference. I can see myself wandering down that avenue.

Do you translate for fun or is it part of a course?

I must admit, that I've got 2 Morrison's books - "Arkham Asylum" + "Mystery Play" - but haven't read anything yet I respect the author and I liked his thoughts on magick and I will surely get acquainted with his works... but it's Edogawa Rampo's time "meditate"

Writing... Geez... I forgot what I told you but I'm always either writing something or thinking about it The same's about drawing )))

Yes, there are some authors, that are really dangerous in big quantities. In horror they are definitely Lovecraft and Ligotti. The list can be continued. Has any writer depressed you so, that were under the weather for quite a while?

Translation. Well, I do it for fun and to improve my English vocabulary. Some of it will be published, eventually - agreements are made, but this is so fucking complicated. UGHH!
I'm 26 now and my university studies are left behind. Fortunately What about you?

He was certainly an interesting fellow, Edogawasan. His influence seems to have permeated many mediums. Thank you for pointing me in his direction...Indeed you are in for a treat when you open up the world of Mr. Morrison.

It is better to fill your head with thoughts of art and writing than it is to worry about what you have forgotten.

No, I cannot think of an author who has depressed me to such an extent. Life has a tendency to effect more in that way. However, there have been authors who have challenged my perception of reality. This in turn has lead me into periods of intense illumination and The Dark Night of the Soul.

That will be a marvelous achievement for you when it is published.
Why did your university years make you want to stab guts like Jack the Ripper?

My university days are almost a memory I'd fogotten about. Althought, I do remember almost losing myself in my final year. I had to prove to the world that I wasn't stupid, you see.

Edogawa + Morrisson... I'm yet to discover them. But for now I'm venturing into the intricate life of the Providence gentleman, a biography by Sprague de Camp.

Yes, life... living in this degenerate little country fills me with such bleakness and dead-end ruminations. It's only my friends, parents and art that keeps the hope alive. Oh, and yes, I do hope the book will be published. I only have to pull myself together and continue with the illustrations.

I guess, I had the same problem with the university that you had - too many distractions, too many things that seemed to me better than dull classrooms and stale knowledge...

The two of us communicating in this peculiar way, through the comments, it's quite interesting. I have the feeling that we'll meet one day

You may wish to take some light refreshment with you. Then again, there is something quite beautiful in Lovecraft's sorrow and hideous nightmares. I've always found myself annually returning to Lovecraft, his influence is never very far away from my mind. I used to roleplay a lot of Call of Cthulhu in my early 20's so it almost feels like going home. Please feel free to wax lyrical on the things that you find on your venture.

Sometimes the situation we are in is all the fuel we need to get us motivated. If it doesn't sink us... Well, I am anticipating holding that book in my hands, and feeling that scent of fresh pages soothing my senses as I begin to read it. So mote it be.

Yes, that is it. Too many other things that are more important than following a set of prescribed rituals for attentaining a particular sanatized version of knowledge. I was far too interested in the fringe aspect of life and had to bend myself and my brain into a shape that would fit that type of learning. Quite hideous. Still, it got me to Japan so it was worth it.

I do hope so. I also enjoy our strange little missives here. Although, I must tell you now I'm rubbish at juggling.

Don't feel that you have to tell me anything interesting just tell me how it is. We run around wearing so many masks that we forget what's underneath. The happy mask is one of the worst to wear. It is ok to feel down. Treat sadness like an old friend and he will reward you with so many stories.never the less I hope that the universal balance has swung back in your favour.

Thank you for sending me that song. You were right, it is very beautiful. I liked the lackadaisical way the melody rolled over itself and the lyrics struck chords of sublime.
