Description I'm not sure if Darrow really looks like this. Anyways, Darrow is one of the main characters of the Chanters of Tremaris Trilogy by Kate Constable. He's my favourite character in the trilogy and out of all the books I've read, he's the one I liked the most. Well, actually, I think it's more like love... I even have a shipping name already... *gets shot*

At first, it may seem that Darrow might be one of those typical cliches in a book: a hunk who has a dark past, refuses to talk about it, moody throughout the book and is paired up with the outgoing girl. Well, he is paired up with the main heroine, Calwyn, and she is quite upbeat and restless... but, ah, that's besides the point. The portrayal of Darrow's character breaks a lot of "rules" of the quiet, moody stereotype. He's not overly moody and quiet. He's a person you can get along with when he's not keeping to himself and if you don't prod him with questions (that's what Calwyn does, unfortunately...). He can show kindness, tenderness and compassion and is very mature. I haven't seen him do anything "immature" at all which is understandable because he's supposed to be 28 (11 years older... *sob*), but people can still be immature in that age. His past is actually very interesting (but anything about Darrow is always interesting...) and it does explain why he broods so much (I love it when he broods... everything about him actually... okay, I'm going to stop now... ). In my opinion, he is the greatest character in the trilogy.

Anyways, I recommend this trilogy to anyone who likes teen fantasy novels and if you're sick of Harry Potter ('cause I sure am, no offense to anyone). I haven't read the third book though, so if anyone has read it, don't spoil anything for me!

(And it's coloured. w00t!)

Love the drawing!! It's not exactly how I picture him, but the drawing is awesome! More than that, I enjoyed reading about Darrow. I fell in love with him 3 years ago, and I still can't get out of it

I haven't read the third book either...

DARROW IS SO CUTE. Lyk, ohmigoodnesh. I LOVE the way you draw him. I just want to... hug him and smother him and croon absurdly childish things at him.

...

He'd probably hate it and chant me into a cage, though.

DARROW! i agree, he's one of the coolest characters of the book, although i think Mica could come a close second or third with Calwyn. He's very Darrow-y in this pic
keep it up!

Thanks! ^^ Glad to meet another fan. Yep, Darrow definitely is the best character of the trilogy. I just wish that there were more actual people like him.

Perhaps I'll do more then, probably of the other characters. But I like Darrow so much that I can only think of drawing him :/

Don't worry, the more Darow there is in the world the better. Have you considered drawing scenes from the books? That would be cool.

More Darrow in the world? Amen to that!

Well, I could try. I've been thinking about it, maybe as a manga, but that's far beyond my reach. I ain't that good yet.

I love the drawing, but I have a comment on your description. You don't have to be immature in order to do silly things. Some mature people know the meaning of breaking people's bad moods.

Sephi-chan In reply to Luminick [2008-03-23 09:48:20 +0000 UTC]

I know that doing silly things doesn't mean you're immature. I guess I didn't put it correctly, but thanks for telling me that. And thanks for liking the drawing as well.

I didn't mean for my comment to sound degrading if it did, sorry. It is, after all, nearly 5 in the morning here, so sometimes what I type out doesn't sound to me what it really sounds like to other people. ^^ But seriously, love the art. Keep up the good work.

Oh, I didn't find it degrading at all. It's quite alright. Thanks, I always try to improve.

Don't we all? xD

Sephi-chan In reply to Luminick [2008-03-23 10:00:47 +0000 UTC]

xD Yes, we all do. After all, I don't think we can be truly satisfied with our work. If that happens, it's all over and that's a bad thing. Or not. But I don't want it to be over. I want to keep drawing even when I get older.

If one thinks that one is perfect then they are not so, since perfection, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. What one sees as perfection another sees as flawed to the extreme.

Sephi-chan In reply to Luminick [2008-03-23 10:17:09 +0000 UTC]

That's very deep, but you're exactly right! I guess if you put it that way, it would be hard to reach perfection since we'll never think our own work is perfect.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Luminick In reply to Sephi-chan [2008-03-23 10:20:12 +0000 UTC]

Yes, but with every non-perfect piece of work, you get closer to being perfect. I'm a poet, so I like to think of things in a deeper manner than most, but it's not hard to do for those who aren't used to it. It just means I'm a little further away from perfection than everybody else, according to my own earlier definition

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sephi-chan In reply to Luminick [2008-03-23 10:33:35 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, for me that's kind of contradicting. I'm a perfectionist and I hate it when all my drawings don't come up the way I imagined them in my mind. But whenever I look back on my old work, I can see the improvement that I've made, and to my surprise, those improvemets occured in such a short time. So it makes me happy that I'm getting better.

I see. I'm still pretty naive and I'd still like to learn more about things in a deeper manner. I don't usually think that way, but the things that you said, they really are perfect and I haven't really thought of them. I learned a lot from you.
