There's just something so compelling about this piece. Maybe its the focus, the odd perspective, the colours and tones... or all of it together. It simultaneously makes me go "WOW!" and sit down and consider the piece and the story behind it. Amazing work!

This is very telling, isn't it?
The primary focus is on the railing, which is cracked and weatherbeaten. Generally has a very old look to it, and then there are shoes on the ground, out of focus but still distinct enough for us to tell they're old and ratty as well. The whole scene has a dirty, gritty feel.
It seems to be about the death of a loved one. A grandfather, I'd say?

This is a powerful picture. It inspires alot of emotion, especially since my grandfather has shoes like that, and he's getting old quickly.
The thick black border is a good choice, by the way. Really adds to the finality of the decline the picture shows. The whole technique makes the viewer see this as a true, unavoidable end to something.

I enjoy every part of this picture. The first thing my mind did with this picture was to play the scene out with a strong, cracked hand using the railing to balance as he went down the steps. You tell a story with a single shot, and that's the hardest thing for photographers to do in my opinion.
Very very well done.
