Description This is the next assignment in Pencilling and Inking II. Each student got a random script from a choice of 3. They're just 3 page snippets and I got 3 pages from a gangster story by Scott Hampton. It was an excercise in storytelling.

I'd seen this one done several times before, when I wasn't in the class, and always wanted to do it myself, so it's lucky I did get the script.

Hmmmm..... Question. Does this have to do with the St. Valentines Day Massacure by any chance? Kinda getting the feeling due to the day and this old gangster feeling. Anyways, very nice work on this page! The line art is awesome!

I'm not really sure, all we got was 3 pages from the script, and there wasn't much character development besides finding out Paddy (the guy who pushes the girl) feels bad about doing that, but gets over it and becomes a more important mobster.

Ah, I see. This is still developing quite nicely though.

I've gotta say, I've really dug this batch of sequentials you've posted. I really liked the second page with the asinine amount of BG detail and perspective. It almost makes me kick myself in the ass for not applying to SVA or Savannah. Nooo, I had to be a teacher XD. One day I'll tackle sequentials, and please go easy when I do, because it will be painful to view.

Thank you ^^

Sequential pages are fun. A lot of my stuff is self taught, going to Savannah just focused me, that's all. I bet you'll do fine

What!? No links to the other pages? AARRGH!

OK, I'm better. Looks good. You have a talent for perspective and backgrounds that I really admire. I have spent most of my drawing time working on the characters and perspective can sometimes really mess me up. I'm also a little jealous that you seem to be in a college course dedicated to comic art. I had no idea such thing existed. Probably didn't when I was entering college.

BTW how long does it take you to create a penciled page? Your frequent deviant updates make it seem like you are lightning fast.

Thanks a lot

The sequential department at SCAD has been around for like 15 years but only really picked up in the past 5 or so years. And for pencils, a page might take 4-5 hours on average. I generally try and do a 1.5 pages a day (so like one whole page and a blue line for the next). Regular illustrations like the Valentine one take like an hour or two.

That's pretty fast. I can blue line one in maybe two to three hours unless I run into a snag. I usually design my shots so that background is not a major concern though. That's a very admirable work habit you have.

It drives people insane though, cause I rarely stop working when I begin, like I won't hang out with anyone till I finish a certain number of pages...like I'm doing a 12 page story so I will be relatively unsocial for like 2 weeks

Doh and I'll fix the links, I didn't have time this morning to do my links
