Absolutely love how you do hair! It's gorgeously realistic. I hope you can make a hair tutorial, some time -- would love to see what brushes you use and how you layer the shading.

One layer painting is the best! (Except when you decide you need a hue correction -- that sucks for me XD) I generally do one layer, too. Sometimes a separate one for the background if I don't feel like doing it all right away, just to keep it from coinciding with fine details later.
Funny how many cool paint program things I loved learning about once upon a time and have completely stopped doing, now! Anyway, whatever you make to show your technique I can't wait to see.

The resolution I've learned, albeit with photoshop, is to create a clipping mask (just for the sake of not scribbling on the background) and then painting with a layer filter like "color." I've had to do that so many times. XD
