Many people think that they are Christians because they belong to a congregation.Others think its because they come from a Christian background.
Others think its because they were born in a certain country.
Or because they believe in God and do good works.
It's not like that at all.
Being a Christian isn't belonging to a congregation.
It isn't walking down an aisle or being baptized.
It isn't just saying "I believe in God."
It isn't even following the Ten Commandments and the Golden Rule.
Being a Christian means believing that Jesus Christ is who He said He is;
The Son of God and the only way to heaven.
It means making a total commitment to Jesus Christ.
It means making Him the Savior and Master of your life.

This is what a Christian is: A Christian is a person who knows the truth, and is so certain of it, that he or she can tell me what the truth is with absolute confidence. A Christian is not curious about my journey, or my experience, or anything that I might believe. He or she is also not curious to learn new truths. They know everything important. They see me only as someone who needs to believe their truth. A Christian is not someone who can learn from me about anything important. To a Christian I am just a potential convert. that is why I hate Christians, except when they are pretending to be just ordinary people who don't know everything important.

I'm no experienced Christian, and I don't know everything (At this point I haven't even finished reading the whole Bible). And though I messed up in my faith, rather badly, I want to at least try and learn about Him again. I won't doubt that there are Christians that aren't willing to understandΒ YOUR journey or experience. Without empathy and understanding, you just end up with know-it-all self righteousness. I don't know what you went through that led you to believe that Christians are like what you said, and I am sorry for whatever it was you went through.
There are Christians that have severely struggled in life, their past, their choices, and there are choices that I have made that I regret and still struggle with. And even when I talk about my faith (which I haven't done too much at this point), I don't want to force people to believe, but I at least want to try and empathize, give comfort, and even say that there is another way, and whether they take it to consideration is up to them.
I can see how easy it is to feel superior to others because we have a different way of life (and I have been guilty of feeling this way in the past), but it doesn't make it right (It makes me think of the Pharisees with their self righteousness and hypocrisy). We still fail and mess up and even backslide. We are still humans, not know-it-all beings that figured everything out. I do also know people who are not religious, but I do not hate them, and even though they don't believe doesn't mean whatever they say has no value (provided I still need discernment to not be led astray or get hurt). I hope perhaps that I may be a good influence on others by the way I live and the choices I make, though at times I fail.
Sorry that this was kind of long, but I wanted to share my feelings and thoughts. And again, I'm sorry if there were Christians that have hurt you.

You are welcome. I don't claim to be the best Christian girl, far from it. And I don't have all the answers, I need more time to learn (I'm 22 at this point but I still have much to learn about God). But I know that I need to be more open-minded and understanding of where someone is coming from, in their thoughts and experiences. And even if viewpoints differ and I don't agree on some topics due to my beliefs, I want to be able to show grace and understanding to others rather than condemnation, because I would want to same done for me.
Basically, I don't want to be a close-minded jerk that doesn't try to hear and understand the viewpoints of those that aren't Christians. I hope that made sense, sometimes I'm not the best articulating my thoughts.
