Fehmklez (also known as Femikladd) was the servant and lover to the wealthy nobleman Rayiys (رئيس). I found inspiration from Middle eastern and oriental art. For example Persian, Arabic, Turkish and Afghan art pieces. The characters, story and design are fictional.

In the illustration one can see Fehmklez in two different roles. His feminine side is to the left and his masculine side to the right. Here Fehmklez is single and is reflecting over his two previous relationships - with nobleman Rayiys (رئيس) and artist Habiba (حبيبة). Fehmklez had conflicting feelings with both of his relationships.
Fehmklez worked as a servant and was the lover to his master Rayiys. He respected Rayiys for giving him a well-paying job so he could support his impoverished family, education, opportunity to pursue his hobbies and for treating him nicely. Rayiys was a generous and good man for his time. He gave his servants luxurious rooms, food, clothing and gifts. Fehmklez saw Rayiys as a handsome man with decent proportions and features. He described him as someone who was skilled and decently pleasant in bed, but that he (Fehmklez) wasn’t fully attracted to him like he was to other women. While Rayiys had many great attributes, it could never beat a lady’s unique beauty and sweetness. «Can the sweetness of a fruit’s juice ever beat the sweetness of a chocolate?» Fehmklez still spent days and nights with his master for four years.
Many years later Fehmklez met his wife Habiba in an art club. They fell in love and shared the passion for art. Habiba recognized Fehmklez talent and helped him promoting his art. Fehmklez’ relationship with Habiba didn’t last long and he asked for a divorce because of she wanted children. Fehmklez didn’t want to have children because of he saw «following the life script» as boring, unfulfilling and unexciting. He wanted to focus on art, leisure and luxurious. In addition, he thought there were enough humans on the planet and that the quality of life would be increased if we cared for already existing people instead of making new ones all the time. Fehmklez thought his way to contribute to society was through his artwork and dancing.
Fehmklez never fathered any children. He never impregnated Habiba when he lost his virginity to her the night after the wedding. While he enjoyed being with his wife when it lasted, he felt dirty and ashamed over what he had done. He knew how biology worked, so he purposely «dodged the bullet» with the little technology he had access to. He did it twice and after that he stopped because of the risk. The child Habiba is holding in the illustration is appearing in Fehmklez daydream when he realizes she wanted to have children, and this is what lead to their divorce. After the divorce Fehmklez went into a deep depression and he felt his body had betrayed him. He desired beautiful women, but he didn’t want to have children. He later overcame it and thought he may find a compatible partner in the future.
His master Rayiys had conflicting feelings as well. Rayiys wanted to have two children and a beautiful wife, but he also wished pleasure was separated from procreation. He wanted to be with his wife at night and do it his preferred way more often, but he couldn’t because of he didn’t want more than two children and he saw his brother was burdened with seven. At the time when Fehmklez worked for Rayiys, contraceptive was not well developed or easily accessible and they were looked down upon by the society. Rayiys once said «women are for procreation. Beautiful and feminine men are for fun».
Both Rayiys and his other servants described Fehmklez as someone beautiful with long raven curly hair and fair features. One couldn’t really tell if it was a woman or a man, but the feminine facial features, mannerism and slender body made him sometime pass as a woman. The feminine man always shaved his mustache, wore golden jewelries and long dresses when he accompanied his master and entertained his guests. He also occasionally wore sweet flowery scented perfume, kohl eyeliner and lipstick. For men who saw their wives as something for procreation and who never saw women’s faces other than their family members, seeing a womanly man like Fehmklez was seen as refreshing and entertaining. In the society they grew up in the genders were segregated until the period where Fehmklez met Habiba. Habiba was one of the first women who showed her face and talked to her male neighbors outside of her family. She was a radical woman although she wanted a nuclear family.

I wasn’t fully satisfied with the drawing I made and messed up on proportions. I still share it and doesn't want to be too serious since drawing is just a hobby I do for fun. I’ve not decided yet if I will color it. In addition to taking inspiration from the Middle east, I’ve also taken some inspiration from the DeviantArt artists Develv (Elveo and DevaKami) and Guzbourine.
