Sorry for the limited activity lately... life's gotten in the way of dA, and now that my subscription's out, the ads make my aging computer run even slower. That, and I'm lazy
So this is just a reminder that I'm still here.. even though I have a good 400 messages waiting to be answered in my inbox. Dammit.This is a marmot, they're fairly common in the Olympic National Park. Hikers call them whistlepigs because of the noise they make to warn others of approaching bears or annoying humans. Cute little things, but skittish. This was the closest I was able to get.

Esta deviation sirve como recuerdo que sigo aqui... aunque todavia tengo mas que 400 mensajes en mi inbox. Maldición.Este es una marmota, un roedor comun de las Montañas Olympic en el estado de Washington. Su apodo, "whistle-pig" (puerco silbante o algo así) surge de su hábito de silbir al acercamiento de un oso o excursionista humano. Son bien asustadizo, no pude acercarme más.

I've got some shots of marmots from Mt.Rainier, they look pretty much the same !
What are the black spots though ? Flies ? Or sensor dust ?

I have dust removal, no sensor dust for me!
I think they're flies, there were quite a few by that lake.
I saw the marmot picture, it's pretty awesome! I didn't get to see any babies, just adults.

I do feel that you could have framed it a bit better... I like the off-centre positioning and how that increases the balance/composition of things, although I do feel that you've got a bit too much space? Some cropping wouldn't hurt, in that sense...
The depth of colours and the lighting are good enough. I do feel that the light colours in the background are a bit distracting, but I think a vignette would solve that.

I'll fiddle around with some cropping, that's a good idea. This is a full-frame shot, so there's enough resolution to do that.
You know, I had two versions of this that I was thinking about posting, one without the light background. I chose this one because I actually thought the snow in the background helped emphasise the marmot- otherwise it sort of blends in with the greenery
