why was chika asleep for so long? what was her purpose as a human service robot? is that still her role or has she changed since being woken up? since civilization has ended does that mean she is all alone in the world now?

robots were mostly kept as hobbies (similar to customizable dolls or figures nowadays) because they're quite expensive to produce!
as a service robot, she mostly performed household tasks & acted as a companion. robots of her type are considered to be somewhat trashy, as they're basically "customizable girls". despite that, she was able to develop her own personality.
she was turned off by her owner shortly before his death, and remained in a sleep mode until rediscovered by two explorers! because her owner's dead, she doesn't have a need to work for anyone and mostly travels with paprika and basil as they explore the world.
she's not all alone, but there are very few people left and most of those still alive live in small, isolated communities. this is partially why she was able to stay asleep for so long!

i lvoe them all! how did paprika and basil meet? have they all lived in the bunker their whole lives, or have any seen the outside world? what is there that keeps them from leaving the bunker?

paprika and basil were both raised in the compound, so they've known each other for as long as they can remember.
they've explored the island they live on, which is fairly small; it consists of a snowcapped mountain w an abandoned weather station at the top and a shore of rusted debris from times past.
besides that, the ocean is wide and dangerous (very acidic, leading to a lack of sea life) so anyone who's left the settlement to explore the rest of the world hasn't returned.
