Meh agree to disagree. BTW, there were two times in sonic X when Eggman fought Sonic directly, and in those times he was piloting some mechs. Thats more or less what I mean by "Directly". Don't get me wrong. I don't hate Satam Robotnik. He got his good qualities, but I feel he is very overrated.

perhaps, tough I'd say that if you look at the full sonic history including all comics, games, spin-offs, ETC ETC, one can argue that Eggman has proven to be more evil and more powerful then Satam Robotnik. But then again, its one of those agree to disagree. At the end of the day, they are all based on the same character and it depends on who you prefer.

He’s not incapable of taking action himself, such as when he spent nearly a whole episode away to personally “eradicate that little freedom fighter uprising on the northern frontier” in ‘No Brainer’. In fact, when he returned at the end of that episode, he immediately went out to look for Knothole with Snively. Or when he personally went out to Lazaar’s lair to steal his computer in ‘Super Sonic’, or to personally steal the secret scrolls in ‘Sonic and the Secret Scrolls’. Or when he went himself to fetch a power ring from Antoine (revealing those kick-ass rocket boots and shooting lasers from his robotic arm) in ‘Hooked on Sonics’ and personally oversaw the Shredder the second time around. Or when he went out to his toxic rain factory to personally capture Sonic (complete with a badass out-of-the-shadows entrance) in ‘Sonic’s Nightmare’, and personally oversee the activation of the Cloud Burster. In fact, in that same scene, Sally said “What’s wrong with your great leader? Is he too chicken to confront us himself?” Robotnik then proceeds to prove her wrong. And then there was the time he went out to inspect his oil mine in ‘Sub-Sonic’. And the time he went to personally capture a Terrapod in ‘Sonic Past Cool’. And in ‘Blast to the Past’, after Sonic escaped Robotnik, he personally went into the city after him. And then there was that moment in ‘Dulcy’ when Robotnik went out to personally roboticize a captured Sonic (in his cool jammies, too) and later on to personally capture a dragon from the Dragons’ nest, interrogate her and take her to the dragon roboticizer. And again, he went after Dulcy and the dragon egg himself. Not to mention going out to supervise the dig for Power Stone after translating the Drood Henge language himself, then proceeding to either take the Power Stone from Sonic, or take Sonic himself. And as soon as they captured Uncle Chuck in ‘Spyhog’, Robotnik personally interrogated him. And in the final episode, he personally captured Sonic and took great pleasure in personally attempting to roboticize the hedgehog. Plus, in the very first episode, ‘Heads or Tails’, he initially joined his army hunting Sonic through the city. And in that very episode, the very first thing we see him do is returning from a mission he was on himself. Also, when he built that massive virtual reality shriek bot in ‘Sonic Conversion’ that just missed catching Sonic by a hair. Or in ‘Game Guy’ when he literally played pinball with Sonic’s life. Sure, these were both virtual reality mechs, but Robotnik was still taking action himself to try to crush the hedgehog.
Sure, Robotnik stole the Roboticizer, but he made up for it by creating the destroyer (that big-ass space ship in the intro and ‘Blast to the Past’) to weaken the world and make it more conquerable. And, what, do you expect one guy to arrest 85% of a city’s population by himself? But he did roboticize Uncle Chuck himself, right in front of young Sonic. Who knows how many mental scars the little boy got from being forced to see that? No wonder he ended up literally having nightmares about Robotnik roboticizing those closest to him in ‘Sonic’s Nightmare’.
Plus, he invented machines such as the robotic cheetah in ‘Sonic Racer’ that was able to run as fast as Sonic. Or the Power Ring-fuelled Sonic Radar with the laser in ‘Hooked on Sonics’ that could instantly track and blast at Sonic. He was even seen personally attending the machine in that same episode with a fetching pair of goggles. Plus his massive tree shredding machine in that same episode and the Snake Probes in ‘Sub-Sonic’. And that gigantic game of pinball in ‘Game Guy’. And the Virtual Reality Shriek Bot that could travel as fast as Sonic and just missed obliterating him. As well as the Dimensional Warp that helped Naugus open the Void. And of course, the big kahuna, the Doomsday machine. To say nothing of his Buzz Bombers, Stealth Bots, Hedgehog-seeking Missiles, the Dino-bot, the Sky Spy, the Cloud Burster, Rat Bots, the Memory Scrambler, Mega Muck robots, etc.

I see your point, and respect your opinion.
now don't get me wrong, I do like satam robotnik, I do! he's an interesting version of robotnik, and a good attempt, at making him scary!
but, to be fair, most of the time, in satam, he kinda just sat there, leaving it to he's robots, or snidely to take care of sonic. it was only a few times, he took action himself, but it didn't qualify as fighting sonic himself.
Eggman on the other hand, was every single boss, in the classic games, and he has been fighting sonic, many times, by controlling a giant robot of some sort. robotnik, never really did that.
but, its all just a matter of opinions, and every guy or gal, are entitled to their own opinion. and, like I said, I like satam robotnik. but, I admit, that I like eggman more.
but, if you don't, I respect your opinion on that. its all just different taste after all!

SATAM Robotnik is my least favorite Robotnik/Eggman incarnation. He just... doesn't DO ANYTHING. I prefer Eggman way more. He has the guts to confront Sonic and his friends himself. Sure, it's alright if someone prefers the one from SATAM, but like you said... he's still lazy!

Eggman: And, Robotnik. How, did you defeat Sonic, when you took over the world?
Robotnik: Eh...I didn't. He was just a child, and ran away and...
Classic Eggman: Ah! So, SOnic couldn't fight back then? Which means, you didn't have any challenge, or anyone to actually stop you!
Eggman: Which, means, that, if for example, we were there instead of you..we would have taken over the world just as easy.

Robotnik: Except... he was there. Yes... it all makes sense now. He was the one who kicked my arm under the roboticizer beam... and tore out Snively's hair. Not to mention that even as a brat, he could still fight. He still had his speed, and that irritating buzzsaw attack. In other words, I won, and there were two of him. And the elder one had explicit knowledge of my plan, and the whole reason he was there was to try and stop it. And he failed. Tell me, what happened when the two of you fought two Sonics, and neither of them knew what was going on, to boot? You lost. At every step of the way, you lost.

Eggman: Except for the fact, that if you compare, your sonic, with my sonic, your sonic is not really that good at fighting! He needs sally to come up with plans for him, and all. My Sonic? Doesn't need that. And, Can your sonic do a HOMING ATTACK? NO!
Classic EGgman: ANd besides. When your sonic, was there. When he traveled back in time. He was too late. You took over the world, the very same day! he had literally no chance, to prepare himself!
Eggman: And, what about G.U.N.? Or, the military? DId they try to stop you? NO! Because, the neither the military, or G.U.N. does not exist on your world! You got it too easy! We could, replace you, with any other mad evil scientist, and they would have succeeded too!
Classic Eggman: Yeah! We could replace, with one of us, and we would have succeeded. We could replace you with, Dr Nefarious, and he would also have succeeded just as easy. Heck, we could, even have replaced, you with freaking dr doofenshmirtz and even he would, have succeeded. Why? because, with so little resistance, when you took over, a much weaker version of sonic, and you, had a roboticizer, that you stole from someone, any mad scientist, could have taken over.
Eggman: So, tell me. When we could, have literally replaced you with anyone. What makes you, so freaking special?

Robotnik: Bah, you act like Maximillian was the only leader to crush, and the only man with a military- a military that I built, no less. He wasn't. Taking Mobotropolis was not the be-all-end-all. As for the homing attack, the version of Sonic in my world had the ability to gain a flightless super mode from even touching a ring. And he had antigravs in his shoes, enabling him to ignore the need to home in on an opponent and simply use a regular spin. Furthemore, my robots were invulnerable to all but his and the Rabbot's attacks, and when I did build giant mechs, they were very hard to destroy. Your machines can be destroyed by a few mild impacts from a Chao. Not to mention that needing a mind as sharp as the princess' to foil me, while you version needs no plans to foil you speaks volumes. In order to even inflict a minor setback against me, the mind of a tactical genius was required. In order to completely ruin your entire plans, all that was needed was the idiot hedgehog himself.

classic Eggman: Oh, really? But one thing. Our sonic, doesn't need to touch a freaking ring. He is powerful on he's own. Which, proves that your sonic, actually, has a handicap.
Eggman: And, when I think about it...I actually, did take over the world once. At the end of Sonic Chronicles, I had taken over the world! And, with G.U.N. there, and all, I had a bigger challenge then you! AND I STILL SUCCEEDED!
Classic Eggman: And another thing, that makes us better then you? We have appeared in the GAMES! The very source material for your show! And In Japan I was always called Eggman! I was Eggman before Robotnik!
Eggman: yup! I think, this song is perfect for this! www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kl2OeB…

Robotnik: Except your Sonic dies if he so much as touches a robot without one. And I noticed that you failed to come up with an adequate explanation as to why your machines can be broken via collision with a creature that possesses all the resilience of a flan, nor a reason why your plans a simple enough that the hedgehog can foil them on his own.
Furthermore, GUN have frequently displayed themselves to be incompetant, incapable of even recognising the difference between Sonic and the one called Shadow, and led by a man who pursues personal vendettas over logical plans. Not to mention that you had to trap Sonic in another world to do that, and since the sequel to that game was cancelled, we'll never know how long it took you to establish that, how far beyond Metropolis your empire extended, or how quickly the hedgehog dispatched you.
And let's not forget that laundry list of failed attempts to control beings far beyond your comprehension. I don't know which is my favourite. The enraged water monster? The angst-ridden hedgehog who was very focused on destroying Mobius, not conquering it? The devil himself? Or maybe that world-ending shadow demon? Or maybe the world-destroying android? Bonus points for trying again immediately after it failed. Or those Zeti that you had to torture to get in line? That was never going to work. Not to mention that while I didn't inspire loyalty in Snively, you couldn't even build loyal minions. Gamma, Omega, Gemerl, SA-55, Orbot, and the crowner being Neo Metal Sonic. Give your hedgehog robot sentience, and it immediately locks you in a cupboard and usurps your empire. The amount of times that you have had to align yourself with the hedgehog is sickening.
And while you might have appeared in the games, let's not forget that what is important here is not origin, but character itself. And considering that you have been consistently portrayed as arrogant, buffoonish manchildren who couldn't conquer a race of pathological cowards...

Eggman: And, your robots, can be broken as easily too! How many times, haven't sonic destroyed your swat bots?
And, lets not forget that, satam never got a third season, and I never got replaced, by a midget and a wizard, unlike you! And since, that game never got a sequel, I could still be in control, for all you know!
That may be true. but then, I always comes back! Some of those gets destroyed, or beaten by Sonic and he's friends. Me? Im still here! You? You, ended up being defeated permanently, by the hedgehog, and you would as I said, be replaced, by a midget and a wizard! IM STILL HERE! I WILL ALWAYS BE HERE! THERE WILL ALWAYS BE AN EGGMAN! When was the last time, we saw you? It was a freaking long time ago! And, in the future, I will still be around! You, say that the hedgehog, has defeated me? I admit, that he has won, some battles. But if he had truly defeated me, I wouldn't still be around.
And, buffoon manchildren? I think, you should take a look, at Sonic adventure 2. Was I a manchild there? NO! You, can make yourself, look as superior, as you want. You, can consider, yourself to be better. But in the end, I will always be there. Unlike you. You, don't exist anymore. Your show got cancelled. my games, are still coming out! ANd, Im tired of this discussion! You, can yell out how superior, you are. but it doesn't change the fact that you, don't exist anymore, unlike me.

Robotnik: It took someone as powerful as Sonic or Bunnie to break my SWATbots. Princess Sally, for example, couldn't. Your robots are, I repeat, frequently broken apart by Cheese the Chao. Or a pathetic hedgehog girl swinging a squeaky mallet.
Ah yes, the plan for Season 3. You do realise that I was going to return, subordinate to Naugus, but still a threat, while SNively would have defected to the Freedom Fighters, right?
And it seems that, considering that you don't appear to have an empire anymore, that you aren't in control.
Yes, you always come back. Even when Sonic outgrew you, you clung on. Villains who would have made for a far more interesting opponent if they became recurring are constantly getting shafted for your sake. And what do you do with it? Oh, of course. Attack with an army of robots and airships, fail, and throw a tantrum. Again. And do you know why the hedgehog hasn't killed you? Because you're just too much fun. He treats your robots like target practice, he treats your mechs like sparring partners, and he treats you like a barely dangerous rival.
Yes, you managed to be competant there, though it was obvious that it was Shadow running the show. Plus, looking at you since then, we have such wonderful instances as you throwing a tantrum when SA-55 backchatted you at the end of Unleashed, trying to kick him, and falling flat on your behind.
