Description I did a partial drawing of Carpeaux's sculpture, Ugolino and his sons. The story of Ugolino can be found in Dante's Inferno, where Ugolino is imprisoned in one of the circles/ levels (however they are described) of hell. Starving, his sons and grandsons offer themselves as food to their grandfather, Ugolino, who refuses. As time goes on his sons die and he goes blind, leaving him to call out unknowingly to no one.

I figure the unfinished figures add to the idea of Ugolino's sons fading away...

The original drawing may be found here : [link]

Painting, textures (from sxc.hu) all done in Photoshop

I read the Inferno recently for a literature class, and I'm convinced that this Ugolino's story will haunt me for the rest of my life.

Your drawing is amazing.

This is absolutely stunning!! The style of the sketch and effects/textures you gave it in photoshop make it look like an old drawing from the renaissance done by say Michaelangelo or Da Vinci... The details and tones in the sketch are simply amazing! Extremely well done!!

Wow! It is lovely....And that you have bothered to write that you have taken inspiration from Dantes Inferno only adds to the experience! Simply marvelous! looks almost like you have used charcoal...
