Description Blahblah: I've enjoyed my fair share of graphic novels and I adore superhero flicks (except you, Spider-Man 3) as much as the next person, but not for lack of interest I always resisted the potentially pricey devotion which is comics. That made me kinda sad, because comics traditionally incorporate three of the things I love best: art, fiction, and good old-fashioned cheese. So I caved about six months ago. :V I managed to get my claws on several complete and partial series that appealed to me, both old & new, to start working my way through this summer. Pretty sure I'm gonna need a bigger boat...

Anywho, roundabout way of introducing my first fanart of a Marvel character. I've got the entirety of the old West Coast Avengers series (purchase of which was inspired by a certain orca-shaped friend of mine, who's got a special love for the WCA) occupying a shelf in my room. Just finished reading it last week--I didn't think I'd like Tigra as much as I did, but she proved me wrong quickly! She's the bee's knees. Firebird, on the other hand, is not sorely missed.

Two bucks to anyone who can guess at which point in WCA I knew that this was the start of a beautiful friendship between comics & me.

Can't ever have too much tigra. Not that there'sany danger of that happening... so, what was the moment? She did't really get to do very much after they resolved the thng with the cat people.

Also if you like 80's comics you might want to cheak out "Excaliber" (pretty sure I spelled that wrong)...

Wow! This looks absolutely STUNNING! I gotta ask; what program did you use? What techniques did you use in order to achieve this stunning style? Did you use different brushes, brush sizes, or did you download custom brushes? I mean, WOW! This looks so clean and colorful and it REALLY POPS! I love it!!

Oh, thank you so much--you flatter me! To answer your first question, I used Photoshop from start to finish. You can get great, clean lines by using the pen tool--it's a little frustrating to learn, but once you get the hang of it, it's really fantastic. (I recommend starting by sketching out your drawing on one layer. Then you can use the sketch as your guide by "tracing" over it with the pen tool on a second layer, after which you can delete the sketch.) As for that "popping" effect, it's mostly due to the fact that the brush size I used to outline Tigra (in other words, every bit of her that borders the white background) was about twice the size of the one I used to ink everything else. Using flat colors without any gradation to depict shadows probably lent to that effect too.

Hope that answers your questions! Feel free to ask anything else. Thanks again!

Thank you! I'm going to try and start using the pen tool more often. You definitely get a smoother effect than you do zooming in and just using the tablet. Looks great! Thanks for taking the time to reply to my comment. Can't wait to see more great art from you!

A great picture, scrimmshaw! I love Tigra as well. I know of two cool fanfics about her which I think you'll like a great deal.

The first is her kicking ass along with Rogue, Daredevil, Human Torch and Spider Man...

...and the second is her getting tickled silly by Black Cat, Hellcat and Shadowcat.

Hope you enjoy them both, and again, awesome work of an awesome character.

HOLY SHIT WHAT THE HELL YOU ARE DRAWING COMICS AND NOT ONLY COMICS IT'S WCA?!

I love you.

Come to me.

This is seriously stunning, woman - your style is gorgeous. The eyes are reminiscent of Stuart Immonen's style - and he's one of my most favourite artists, so that's a HUGE compliment. Please... draw the whole team. *cracks whip*

Was the point when Master Pandemonium wielded Wanda's fictional children as arms?

Oh my goodness JEN. I almost feel like I have to apologize for not reading comics sooner. They were the missing components in my life as nerd. They're the witch-babies to my gaping soul-hole. I am actually suffering withdrawal from the sudden lack of a twenty-year-old comic books series in my life. You need to tell me more crap to read, like, now.

But thank you so much for the lovely compliments ): I decided to ditch my habit for putting in as much detail as possible and went for a more simplistic style, and it makes me happy that you think it works! Definitely planning on more WCA. Especially my favorite member. ~SUSPENSE~

Favourite member!!!!!!! It's not Wonder Man is it?

Kevin and I shall discuss what to point you towards, as our Marvel library is vast. But I think that if you want a more recent one to get stuck in to, The Incredible Hercules is right up your alley. Also She-Hulk.

As appealing as his mullet once was, it is not Wonder Man! Yooou'll seeeee

Oh, hurrah! I know you've been talking up Incredible Hercules, so I'll definitely get my hands on that. And I loved what I did get to see of She-Hulk in the course of WCA! I'm working on New Avengers right now...

No prob dude. I'm looking forward to buying a copy of the album.
I got the first 8 issue of WCA standing my to read it.
Kind of dumb that with all the Avengers books there are out now, that they haven't put up a new WCA book.
