A little something to help me get over my procrastination (part of the reason why there's been no updates from me lately).

Taking 's advice and tackling something I KNOW I can finish and include in my demo reel, or at least print portfolio.

About four hours work, from sketch to finished model and textures. 91am-5 am). Render time =1 min in mental ray. All maya. no post photoshopping (only to save the rendered bmp as a jpeg. Maya's jpeg compression is nasty, and to add the DA url ).

specular mapping,
bump mapping
incandescence mapping
transparency mapping (a first for me, The blues of the blade are actually see through, but you can't tell in this render).

The kanji (or whatever it's called) literally translates to "beginning, Lunatic, wrath" (or something...take it how you want it).

Glow-y parts is kinda a homage to phantasy star online.
