Backstory: (12/13 when war started - 15 when war ended)
~~CHILDHOOD~~
While Yoichi himself remembers little about his childhood he has had most of the gaps filled in by his brother, Masaru. From what he knows he was a pleasant but rather curious child who enjoyed swimming and going out on the ocean with his father Satoru who was a fisherman and taught him everything from baiting a line to setting a trap. When he was 8 his father went missing at sea and though young, Yoichi developed an interest in the afterlife so he could comfort himself with the loss. He also was very focused on becoming a fisherman and following his father's footsteps. Yoichi also, due to his interest in death and the afterlife, he took an interest in Youkai as they have a connection to another realm. When the war started Yoichi’s brother joined the fight as he was the only one old enough and their mother still needed to care for their younger sister and Yoichi snuck off after him, wanting to help. During a battle he was fatally injured and prayed for someone to save him- unfortunately a Youkai heard his wishes and, with his judgement blurred by fear, Yoichi accepted the Youkai’s offer to save his life.

~~POSSESSION~~
(14-19)
Yoichi remembers nothing of the five years his body was taken over by the Youkai, only having a vague feeling of fear and hatred. He gets flashes of the times occasionally when he sleeps, and only knows that the Youkai was a very cruel creature. While possessed his body did not age and was healed fully, however he still has a large scar covering most of his back, as well as a mark of the Youkai that possessed him. Yoichi was freed from the possession by a priestess his brother had pleaded to assist him and bring his little brother back.

~~YOUNG ADULT~~
Despite being freed from the Youkai’s hold, one does not simply return to normal after such a long time of absence. Having been in contact with the Youkai so long Yoichi unfortunately took on some of the less desirable traits and had lost most of his memories of anytime before those five years, only remembering (after being explained and memories being triggered) key people and events in his life- the rest was filled in by Masaru. Feeling the need to be away from people and since he still held his morbid interest in death, Yoichi studied and became the Undertaker of the Winter Kingdom.

~~CURRENT~~
Yoichi now lives a life he sees as rather meaningless, but finds interests in learning all he can and spending time around other people, just to see if he can be any sort of normal again. He still struggles with impulse control and as such typically make annoying company at best, bad more often. In his free time he still goes fishing.

Trivia:

☆ He often avoids seeing Masaru as he knows his brother still sees him as the young boy before the incident, and he cannot handle that. He also has no connection emotionally with his younger sister and does not visit home.

The relationship between Nobu and Yoichi went through a lot to get to this point, starting with a simple run in during some errands. Intrigued by Nobu's many eyes Yoichi decided to hassle the poor Claydol, and eventually began going to acupuncture sessions to deal with the scar tissue on his back and bother his new friend. Slowly they actually became friends as Yoichi's confidence and upbeat nature meshed well with Nobu's reserved but stubborn ways. Before they knew it they had grown very close and their friendship had grown into romance. It's.... been a ride, that's for sure!
