Looks different hm?

Helloo everyone!

I've felt very guilty for having so many watchers these days, and not uploading any new work

I do have quite a lot of work from the past 18 months I really need to upload, so bare with me please, I will get there, promise!

I've been really suffering with my back for 12 months now, and nearly 2 year's with various other things which is meaning I’m not finding fun in anything, being drawing, training my gun dog, going out, and most of all seeing my 5 wonderful horses

Anywhooo, about the sketch;

It is completely freehand [means I’ve not drawn it from a photo] I’ve only used one photo to assist on a certain part of the shading on the saddle. I’m really really pleased with it!

There is still quite a bit I want to change before I start on any more of the horse, i.e. the horses head position isn’t very on the bit, so I want to make the horse more “round” and also want to make that left hind a bit more ‘in motion’ with the horse, as it’s more like a strangely bend leg when standing.

I drew it with the intent of someone seeing it from being lower down, i.e. In a chair, so the horse is more side on, although with shading I’m certain it will look less flat.

It’s only had an hour so far, which has been the plotting and pointing, sketching out, refining and working on the saddle and leg

It got left for a while; however I’m starting on it again after a 6 month break from drawing
I hope you like it so far, I WILL keep you updated as it progresses!

Oh and yes, it’s been taken with my camera, not scanned [because it’s on A3 this time, and my scanner is only A4, doh!]

This is part of a lengthy series im doing of equine spheres i love and have done. It will have such things as Dressage, Showjumping, Cross Country [also includes Eventing] Showing, Western, Side Saddle and possibly quite a few more when i decide!

I really do admire your knowledge of equine anatomy - mine is still straggling somewhat - and i'm loving how this is looking so far

very beautiful! i luv how the horse is caught in stride of the canter! and the flow of the rider's jacket! (Those things are actually heavy... so they shouldn't blow up in the wind) but it makes the picture more fluid and creates movement and grace to it... like a solemn beauty...

Depend's on the make of jacket. This was based on remembering a photo I have of myself in a dressage long coat with tail's that did blow about at a faster pace, which was highly annoying

Have been changing and altering the horse around for about an hour now. Wasnt happy with the hind leg, and how the horse wasnt very in a contact. Nearly got it sorted out now xD

Thankyou very much!

that must have been a nice jacket...all mine have to be a certain style and a certain company... and they are heavy!! almost pure wool with several hints of polyester and cotton... on hot days out side... i wouldnt put the thing on until i was ready to enter the areana....

Aye. I'm pleased they are retailoring some of the long coats as they havent always been quite so practical. Plus events are actually realising that us riders do get too hot in jackets, and it's unfair to ask us to compete in serious heat with the jackets on

i mean during the winter it's fine... yeah... some times it's not enough... but in the mid summer day heat? u've got to be kidding! one of my friends almost fainted because she got so hot.... her horse kept refusing to go into the arena and she slumped over and her trainer caught her... oi... that was bad...

yeah... but the judges that I preform for are very 'Formal' so they want us to look our best and to be 'rofessional'.... it's too much some times! While they sit in small air-conditioned huts... us riders are out in the blistering sun, with hot jackets, and leather boots.. and only a cap on for protection... and gloves!! even they horse breaks a sweat just from standing out in the sun! it's ridiculous!!

Ah yes, but even the "top" level stuff has regulations for rider comfort as well as the traditional dress Its conformiin got H&S standards, even though the UK is mad on H&S seeing as everyone is almost insured for everything.

I competed at Cappenhan national dressage final's on the hottest day on UK record in 2004 and we were all allowed to dress down out of long coats
