Description This lineart has been lying in my portfolio for almost 2 years and have recently decided to finish it. Dorothy Gale from "The Wizard of Oz" is one of my all time favorite book/movie characters in the world. I loved how Judy Garland played her, but I was enoumously sad on how her life ended. Judy didn't find her rainbow unlike her character did Dorothy did. Anyway, her films and music live on and it is fantastic that her ever popular song "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" remains one of the best songs ever produced by Hollywood.

Over all Time it took to finish: 4 days

Materials used:
9 X 12 Vellum Bristol Paper
HB and 2B Mechanical pencils
6H Derwant's Graphite pencil
Tortillions

How much catching up I've to do! Youb uploaded so much wonderful art while you were gone! Ah, Judy... the best Dorothy ever. I'm happy to see work dedicated to her, let alone such splendid work! I absolutely love how you captured her, the shading and smoothness (gotta love tortillions!) are breathtaking! The expression of her eyes is the essence of Dorothy. amazing job! Loving it!

Oh, gosh! How beautiful! I was going to ask what media you used, but I'm glad to see you've posted that information. What strikes me most about this piece is how well you've captured her expression. It's especially apparent in her eyes.

Thanks for your wonderful praise, it means so much to me ! To tell you the truth, I wasn't sure if I liked the drawing I made of Dorothy. I thought it looked off, but I guess it must have been the reference photo I was using cause it was so bright, but I made do with what I had.

Oh, how beautiful! I just saw this movie again the other night (we have it on disc), and this is just perfect: the likeness, the emotion and expression; you've done a magnificent job with some very difficult lighting here, too. Your work is always so SMOOTH, and so beautifully blended...as though done in charcoal dust or powdered graphite--it's a stunning effect, and really puts the focus on the person you've drawn, rather than on the pencil strokes... Awesome work, my dear! And a very Happy New Year!

Thank you for your lovely comments, I really appriciate it It was a difficult piece to do, cause the lighting on the reference pic was very light and I mostly had to add shadows to the skin and clothing myself or where I think the shadows would go.

"the lighting on the reference pic was very light and I mostly had to add shadows to the skin and clothing myself or where I think the shadows would go."

Wow--then I'm even more impressed! I'm not comfortable enough with shading to achieve this kind of quality when "winging it"--I need a good reference with good shadowing to work from; congrats on a marvelous effort (and your intuition and skill really paid off here--it's just gorgeous! )

Beautiful! As always, I love the way you've done the hair. You have a particular style with hair that is really lovely. The clothing is beautifully done too - and her expression!
