I really like how the engine area of the ship is guarded which is unusually uncommon in many sci-fi shipsΒ

So what kind of propulsion system did you have in mind? i don't see anything noticeable.Β

This shot is from the bow so they're kinda hard to see, but you should just be able make out the thrusters at the back end of the ship, to the left in the pic.
It's nothing special though, just clusters of fusion powered plasma/particle engines. If you sift through my gallery there are plenty more images of the ship where you can see the engines in more detail.

So if you put some spin on her, all the guns can hit one target several hundred times? Also if she were more (American) football shaped the guns could fire fore and aft while presenting the smallest possible target. Still reminds me of a Cactus.

yep the space cactus look bothered me too so i decided to redesign her from stem to stern.
I started with greatly reducing the antenas and setting all gun barrels straight, this immediately took away that fury cactus feel.
I did not stop there, all guns thrusters antenas grill and center dome have been seriously upgraded and the ship renamed.

It does indeed look like a cactus, well put!
You're also quite right about the tapering at both ends. It does taper enough to fire all fwd and aft batteries along it's axis, se here:Β SBF Jupiter
There's actually a great deal of thinking that went into this design. The idea was to make a space battleship that would totally dominate any battle scenario from any angle and be extremely difficult to knock out.
Hence the massive armour barbettes each turret is mounted on and the large number of small engines spread out across the rear. It can take massive damage and still have a superior amount of guns and drives!

this is awesome! finally a realistic shape of a space battleship, designed to take on opponents in a 3D environment with no objective "up" and "down" with turrets pointing in all directions and stuff. great!

Hehehe, thanks! Yup that was the plan when I made it. Omnidirectional Β firepower. It kind of turned into a cartoon like cigar bechause I found that shape to be the ideal one. from the front and rear the ship has a tiny profile with lots and lots of " terraced" cannons. Hard to hit and devastating to meet. Same thing with the broadsides. bigger sillouette, but more cannons in range, and absolutely no blind spots. Β

there aren't too many really believable ships out there where you look at the structure and say yeah that could be built. this one is. looks like a seed pod or something from nature. which makes sense. you gave your ship a macro structure and thats to me why it works. good follow up detail as well.

hull yes, however, the number of armaments attached, well i work for the military, we dont do that for a various reasons. one of which is maintenance.

yeah i'd agree the number of guns is more than redundant. but cool. you could also say that why does a space ship even need guns at all. maybe it could use its mass as a weapon. or some kind of mass projectile. get it going in the right trajectory at high velocity and your done really. then sit back and watch the carnage

the mass effect series has all ships using a large mass accelerator along there bows. its just hard lining them up perfectly.

its still a logical design choice. provides 360 protection, and can fire from any angle. would make a good gunship for anti fighter combat.

Tnx! Yup, I spent 200 hrs on it. Mostly because of my poor SU skills, but also because it took a looong time to design. I went through several drafts/crashed concepts before I landed on this.
