Fantastic vision! Good luck on your journey! I've been having a great time with it and here's a bunch of tutorials you might like to see: [link] - OK yes, it's a collection of other people's tuts that I featured recently!

Thanks a bunch for the kind words and helpful tuts link! I could really use some tutorial help as I'm really just poking around in the dark. And with these hefty render times, experimentation is a laborious process, but fun!

Yes I find the render times excruciating in some cases! ARG!!! Need more RAM....however the results are so amazing, it's worth it to me. Unfortunately the tutorials don't mention anything about decreasing render times! LOL! You can believe what a difference the new Navi window makes though. When I started with the program in Sept, the window image looked very little like the main window and it was incredibly slow and frustrating - not even vaguely in the same colours. A lot has been improved on since then thanks to the creator Jesse and LucaGN , an artist and incredible mathematician on dA who writes many of the formulas.

I can't imagine doing this without the Navi Window!!!

I worked on one the other day that had a 17 hour render time! Are you serious? I had to reevaluate the value of such an image, but after some thought, I went for it! Now I've set up 2 other boxes to only do such renders! I'm still amazed at what can come out of this app!

Mathematics and art - whodda thunk it!?!? (well obviously Jesse, LucaGN and others did, but you know what I mean!)

Thanks again!

Well the concept isn't so new to me and I'm still obsessed with it. First found out about fractals in the early 90's in National Geographic! Then when I first got a computer in 1999, I almost immediately looked up and started getting into fractals. Too bad I haven't got the least concept of numbers! LOL!!!

Yes, I come across them all the time - is two days too much for a fractal? I don't know but if I'm really curious, I'll let them render which severely limits what else I can do on my system! Oh well...I almost always have more than one instance going at the same time and usually render 5-6 overnight when I'm on a roll!

Well yes, fractals have been around awhile, but they didn't excite me until these 3D fractal forms appeared. This architectural style is just stunning!

I've been creating art on computers since the late 70s (yes, pre home computers), but the concept of me and mathematics making happy together is still a shocker! At least to all my old math teachers!

New vistas of vision and beauty - through manipulated numeric values! It's only natural!

Well that's totally cool! I noticed on your profile that you're not exactly a noob! LOL!

How were you making art on computers back then without math?

It's totally natural - we're all fractal, really!

I started creating animations on dedicated mini computers for those large electronic display signs as seen in large stadiums. Then got an Atari 400 in 1979, later had a "Mac" in '83 (pre '84 release - actually an Apple Lisa running Mac OS - working for a software developer), and luckily all these systems had somewhat intuitive graphic front ends!

Oh sure, math and art have always been connected in the computer age, but I'm so hopelessly right-brained it's a miracle I can connect the pixels at all!

Wow, you were really in on it early!

I hear you on the right-brained-ness! I can hardly remember phone numbers or count change on bad days! LOL!

NP SFAMan, cool image - liking the colour palette here!
Reflections would have given it a little more depth though?

Thanks Mark. Now I just need to figure out how to use reflections in this app!? I believe this is my second 3D fractal, so a long road yet to travel...
